A temple shaped by time holding tradition, shaped by the present. Where stone remembers, and space learns to be still.

Approach, threshold, enclosure, and release are choreographed through mass, proportion, and surface articulation. Traditional motifs are reinterpreted through a contemporary lens subtle, grounded, and integrated. The architecture does not demand attention; it earns it through restraint.

Designing within a 30’×40’ footprint demanded a sectional approach rather than a purely planar one. A centrally positioned staircase acts as the spatial spine, splitting the house across staggered levels rather than conventional floors. Each landing becomes a threshold into a new volume, enriching movement and amplifying the perceived scale of the interior. This vertical articulation is legible on the exterior, where the house reads as a composition of stacked and offset volumes.

A house shaped by light, level changes, and restraint.
On a compact site, spaces unfold vertically interwoven with gardens, terraces, and pockets of green that draw daylight deep into the home. Programs are stacked rather than spread, allowing openness to emerge through section rather than scale.
Exposed materials are left honest and unembellished, embracing texture, age, and imperfection. Recycled wood used across doors, windows, and interiors anchors the house in a sustainable ethos, giving warmth to an otherwise minimal form.

An economical yet generous home in the suburbs of Bangalore.

Set on a 60’ × 40’ site, the house unfolds as an L-shaped plan, carving out a north-west garden that becomes the heart of the home, bringing light, air, and calm deep into the interiors. The layout embraces an open-plan philosophy, with minimal internal walls, allowing spaces to flow seamlessly around the garden.
The elevation is defined by a bold cantilevered slab born from the intent to keep the car park free of columns, reading as a strong horizontal line slicing through the vertical mass. Cleanly dressed laterite stone introduces a subtle vernacular resonance, grounding the contemporary grey palette in local materiality and craft.
