Material & Detail

We chose restraint.

A palette of stone, wood, and cane ; materials that age with grace and hold memory in their grain. Nothing ornamental. Nothing loud. Just quiet permanence.

Walls don’t end ;they curve and dissolve into ceilings. Edges soften. Corners disappear. The architecture feels less constructed, more carved.

The marble underfoot almost mirrors the tone of the walls, creating a continuous, immersive envelope. No harsh contrasts. No visual breaks.

In this calm neutrality, light becomes the protagonist. It washes, it lingers, it deepens textures.Shadows sketch the architecture through the day.

At OCD.Designbuild, we believe detail isn’t about decoration. It’s about atmosphere.

This home is imagined as an inward retreat from the city’s constant noise. Set on a dense residential street, it turns away from outward display, choosing introspection instead. A dark, solid façade filters the western sun, absorbs sound, and screens the visual chaos beyond.

Arrival unfolds as a slow transition, gently peeling away the city with every step. Light softens, the senses quieten, and the house begins to feel protective and calm.

At its heart lies the home spa — a space shaped by water, stone, and shadow. More than an amenity, it is a ritual of pause, anchoring the home in stillness and quiet restoration.

At the heart of the home lies a courtyard, quietly open to the north. It was shaped not to invite spectacle, but a certain kind of grace—light that arrives softly, without heat or glare, and settles rather than announces itself.

As the day unfolds, this light drifts through the house like a slow breath, touching walls, floors, and volumes in passing. It binds the spaces together, floor to floor, creating moments of pause and calm. The home learns the rhythm of the sun, and in doing so, offers its inhabitants a gentle, unspoken sense of ease.

This home begins with the land. The design grows around the site’s existing trees, letting the garden lead the architecture rather than follow it. A courtyard embracing the jackfruit tree becomes the soul of the house, pulling nature into every room and every moment.

The form is a play of volumes and voids — bold concrete and steel softened by terraces, cut-outs, and pockets of sky. Light shapes the home as much as material, with gentle northern and eastern light crafting calm interiors while the harsher sun is thoughtfully screened. The house breathes with the day.

Materiality brings character: concrete, slate, granite, corten steel, and clear glass come together in a palette of honest, raw elegance. Transparency and open thresholds blur edges, making the indoors feel inseparable from the garden.

Rooted in an India Modern sensibility, the home blends timeless materials, crafted details, and contemporary expression. It’s architecture driven by care, clarity, and a genuine love for design.

What happens when your life partner is also your work partner? Work talk sneaks into every meal, creativity flows beyond the studio and the lines between passion and profession blur, possibly in the best way.

Our lovely peers, three couples ( , .blr ) from the archi-design world let us in on their journey of love, design and everything in between.
