Kalamani Late Rabindranath Sahu was born on 15th February 1960, hails from a familyhaving an artistic background in Dihirakul Village of Mayurbhanj a district, in the State of Odisha, his father Late Kishore Chandra Sahu was a famous performer of Rasalila Theatre Party, Guru of Odishi Kirttan, Director of Opera / Drama and Music Composer. u left his rural abode in 1973 to learn traditional Patachitra Painting and joined the Handicraft Training Centre in Bhubaneswar, for two years, under the guidance of famous Guru like Gokul Bihari Pattnaik, Late Bhagabat Moharana and Benudhar Mohapatra. On completion of this training, then Sri Sahu went for advanced research various style art forms. Sri Sahu has written a number of research articles on Patachitra which has been published in a number of newspapers and magazines all over the country. He is also the author of five research books on traditional painting and tribal art apart form many drawing books depicting various line drawing from of Patachitra. He has been awarded by various organizations ranging from Odisha to New Delhi . He has organized a number of workshops and symposia on Patachitra and has conducted many training camps and new design workshops. The New design samples created by him have drawn appreciation in the contemporary handicraft market. Sri Sahu is known for his extensive research in the tribal art form found in tribal communities of Odisha. He has also incorporated various illustrations from the traditional palm leaf manuscripts and puranic themes in Pattachitra like “Sringar Satak” by Bhartruhari, "Kumar Sambhab”, “Ragamala Painting”, "Gita Gobinda” and “64 Arts in Kamasutra” etc. Then to his writing efforts Sri Sahu has trained and developed many students who have matured into established painter in Patachitra. In the process,he has laid down the foundation for the growth of the unique art form in Odisha.
