A peek inside "House of Planes"

House of Planes
Location: Kannur, Kerala
Area : 6000sq ft

"House of Planes” is a 6000sqft residence located in Kannur district, Kerala. Our client wanted an open minimalistic house which has its own character, within the house as well as outside. The requirements include 4 bedrooms, 3 different living spaces, dining area, kitchen, a multipurpose room and a swimming pool.
The huge front yard, with lush green vegetation is what you see once enter the compound. A play of horizontal and vertical planes comprises the long front façade of the house. Vegetation and water feature enhances this further. The house constitutes timeless materials and accordingly we adopted the color palette around white, wood and grey. This also builds the visual impact by creating contrast with its surroundings.
Once you enter the foyer, an elegant framed view of the courtyard is what you get to see first. Formal living area is designed to impress and their experience is enhanced with an access to a private courtyard with a water body. Guest area and family area are axially segregated to provide privacy even when guest areas are occupied. The 20m long NS axis stands as a transition space where you have built spaces on one side and greenery on the other. Aligning with sustainable practices, natural light is drawn in through the u shaped plan. Clearstory windows are placed to achieve stack effect, allowing superior passive ventilation. The dining and family area is one single connected space with double height volume which opens as patio for the courtyard. A seating & a barbecue facility is also accommodated here. Master bedroom is placed at the far end of the house but closer to the family area.
