House by the paddy
Residence at Areekode, Malappuram
Area : 4400 sqft
Client : Mr. & Ms. Suhail

The exterior design is minimalistic, with a sloping roof extending over both floors to shield the house from the winds coming off the paddy fields. We also repurposed roofing tiles from an old building, staying true to the local context and reducing waste.

House by the paddy
Residence at Areekode, Malappuram
Area : 4400 sqft
Client : Mr. & Ms. Suhail

The plot is raised about 3.5 meters above the road level, and we chose to enter the site from a side road, strategically positioning the residence to maximize the view of the paddy fields. A long verandah and an extended deck area were designed to offer a seamless connection to the landscape, as the client spends much of his mornings enjoying the view.

After understanding a software developer's straightforward requirements and the beauty of the location, we decided to keep the architecture simple, contextual, and responsive to the surroundings.
The plot is raised about 3.5 meters above the road level, and we chose to enter the site from a side road, strategically positioning the residence to maximize the view of the paddy fields. A long verandah and an extended deck area were designed to offer a seamless connection to the landscape, as the client spends much of his mornings enjoying the view.

When we first visited the site, we realized that the design process didn't start merely with the plot itself—it began the moment you turn off the main road to a road though paddy field. The plot offers a stunning 180-degree view of lush green fields, which became a central element in our design approach.
