Cascade of faith
Church | Wayanad | Renovation project
Built up area - 1400 sqft | Status - Completed| Team – TD and Church Association
Located in Varayal, a small village in the northern part of Wayanad, India, Cascade of Faith is a 60-year-old church situated amidst 1.5 acres of pure greenery and a small waterfall. The old church was built with terracotta bricks available on site with the help of the community living in the surrounding area. It is a place that represents the neighborhood that lives in the hills in harmony with nature. The brief for the church renovation presented a clear mind to retain, reuse, and maintain the essence of the place filled with belief.
With a tight budget, the architects adhered to a conscious sensibility of adaptive reuse and community building. The construction concluded with laterite blocks for walls, stained glass in windows to showcase colorful light beams, and 60% reclaimed clay tiles to shade the area and make the interior cool in summer and warm in winter. For the interior, wooden benches were also made up of 40% reclaimed wood from the deconstruction.
