An auditorium designed for Delhi’s climate and public life.
The building is lifted to create a shaded, porous ground level that allows people to gather, wait, and move comfortably during peak heat. This open plinth acts as an extension of the landscape, making the entry sequence gradual rather than abrupt.
The main hall sits above as a solid, acoustically controlled volume. Its vaulted openings bring in diffused north light while reducing heat gain, creating a calm and focused interior for performances. The contrast between the transparent lower level and the heavier upper form clearly separates public circulation from the enclosed auditorium space.
Material choices are kept honest, masonry for thermal mass, glass for visual connection, and concrete for structure responding to both climate and durability. The intent is to create a civic building that feels accessible, performs efficiently, and remains comfortable for large gatherings throughout the year.
