Almost one week into June, Chennai is still grappling with scorching heat. Residents experienced a heat wave-like condition on Tuesday as mercury level crossed 40 degree Celsius in the city.
Weather observatories in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded 40.7 degree Celsius and 41.5 degree Celsius on Tuesday. Last year, the highest temperature recorded for the month was only 38.6 degree Celsius on June 22.
Stations in suburbs too recorded relatively high temperature during the day. While the mercury level rose to 40 degree Celsius in Sholinganallur and 40.7 degree Celsius in Chembarampakkam at 2.30 p.m., Poonamallee and Puzhal had relatively lower temperature at 39.8 and 39.4 degree Celsius respectively during the same time.......
