Chitalagi Amavasya | Chittau Amavasya 🌿🙏

On the sacred new moon of Shravan, Chitalagi Amavasya brings one of the beautiful traditions of Odisha’s Jagannath culture to life.

At Srimandir Mahaprabhu Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra are adorned once again with their traditional golden, gem-studded forehead ornaments — Chitas, which were removed before Snana Jatra. This special ritual is known as Chitalagi Niti.

Across Odisha the day is also celebrated with Chitau Pitha, a traditional rice-and-coconut delicacy offered with devotion to the deities and enjoyed by families.

A day where Mahaprabhu’s tradition, Odia food and family customs come together. Keeping our culture alive from one generation to the next. ❤️
