💡 OEM Quoted ₹2.8 Lakh for Replacement. We Fixed It On-Site in Selaqui for ₹24,000.
Last month, a FMCG unit in Selaqui Industrial Area (Dehradun) called us in a panic.
One of their 22kW / 30HP VFDs on a critical conveyor line failed suddenly.
Production had already been down for 6 hours when they contacted us.
OEM’s Diagnosis (over call & photos):
“Power section failure. Complete drive replacement recommended.”
New drive + accessories: ₹2.8L+
Delivery: 7–10 days
No guarantee of data/parameter cloning from old drive
The client’s problem was very real:
This line feeds their primary packing section
Every hour of downtime = missed dispatch schedules + penalties
Stock commitments to multiple distributors across Uttarakhand & UP
Our Approach: Don’t Assume “Beyond Repair”
We refused to treat it as a black box.
We visited the plant in Selaqui the same evening and carried out:
On-site inspection of the complete panel (not just the VFD)
Visual check for:
Burn marks
Bulged capacitors
Smell of burnt epoxy
Isolation test of the IGBT module and DC bus
Power board & control board separation and bench testing
What We Actually Found
Not “complete drive failure”.
The real issues were:
1 shorted IGBT in the power stage
2 damaged gate resistors
Evidence of repeated undervoltage & voltage dips during power restoration (common in the Selaqui belt)
Control board, main DC bus, and display were all healthy.
Component costs:
IGBT module: ~₹3,000
Gate resistors & small passives: 60% of a new drive
Parts are genuinely obsolete/unavailable
Application demands a technology upgrade
But in most cases we see in Selaqui and nearby industrial areas:
A ₹2–5K component failure
Leading to a ₹2–5L “new drive” recommendation
