The Master bedroom has primarily modern details with capsule shaped wooden boards housing a filament light and switches on either side of the bed. The bed has a sleek silhouette with a tantalizing madras checks headboard reminiscing their childhood, paired with smaller charcoal and beige checks on silk. The room has an expansive light hued L shaped cupboard blending in the shell with the subtle texture of grooves.

The study of lawyers. Breaking the connotation that the phrase brings, this room is soaked in filtered sunlight, cane, wood, warmth and ease. A wall full of literature embellished with a hand me down ancestral planter chair denoting a space for two and a space for peaceful relaxed tete-a-tete or spending time together in solitude.

The guest is a compact simple space with a bold black open grain contemporary armoire on either side of the bed and a custom slide out tray compensating for bedside tables. Softening the room is a spice colored Chandan Tanchoi silk curtain by Asian Paints Pure Concept

The dining area is a space that witnesses the passion and excellence of the homeowner for the culture that food brings to the table. With modern blue ikkat, mid century modern dining chairs are paired with a round dining table micro topped with cream and terracotta forming tile like checks. The top is supported by a chunky cylindrical leg and a burst of nostalgia of dainty carved antique legs that made the dining table the homeowner grew up eating on. The bar of the connoisseur couple is enclosed in the terrazzo top credenza. All the materials like terrazzo, terracotta, ikkat, carved wood that pay an ode to the days gone by are strikingly used with contemporary sensibilities.

The house hums the sacred energy of minimalism. It reflects a slow life where activities of the regular nature are cherished and intentionally enjoyed. Every element reflects a belief, personality and history. Ruled by essentialism, life is breathed into this apartment shell with echoes of nostalgia, belongingness and tales of travel.

The protagonist of the house is the fabrics in each room. The white living room curtains have subtle screen printed golden palms that filter in the golden sunlight and have a playful dialogue with the block printed, viridian proud peacocks of Konark on the armchair. The sofa, a remnant of their first home as a couple was spruced up with embroidered black and white stripes paired with textured taupe linen.

The design of The Mighty Midget by was to belong to one family but still have unique characteristics that define each member. With a longitudinal space which was surrounded by a sea of doors and passages. As you enter the home you focus on a slatted partition in light Scandinavian wood acting as a privacy sheild to the bedrooms, a backdrop to the living sofa and it also doubles up as a bench to the 6 seater dinning.

Every inch of space is mindfully curated interspersing functionality with aesthetics.

Beyond the partition is art created out of 6 veneer discs cut out from the remains of the TV Wall panelling wastage.

02 THE MIGHTY MIDGET

The entire living dining is a monochromatic ecosystem containing various textures of grey.

The Tv wall is clad in grey veneer forming a chevron pattern, the remains of which turned into 6 round geometric art for the dining custom made on site. This wall has a dual function of a study cm Tv unit.

THE MIGHTY MIDGET

6 family members, 3 rooms and 900 sqft. Thus begins the story of this house in Navi Mumbai India. Space optimisation, budget friendly and minimal waste was the mantra for this apartment. We call this home a mighty midget because it encapsulates the likes and dislikes of 6 individuals, their lifestyle and them as one whole unit and a family, sharing time, space and memories. The design of the house was to belong to one family but still have unique characteristics that define each member.
