CPVC PIPES : SDR 11 vs SDR 13.5

SDR 11: Lower SDR → thicker wall → higher pressure capacity (~20–25 kg/cm²). Suitable for hot water and high-pressure systems.

SDR 13.5: Higher SDR → thinner wall → moderate pressure capacity (~10–16 kg/cm²). Suitable for cold water and normal domestic use.
👉 Key Point: Lower SDR means higher strength and pressure resistance.

Lapping Zone in Column.
As per IS 456:2000, lap splices in columns should not be provided in highly stressed regions.
✅ Recommended Location:
Middle 1/3 height of the column (mid-height zone)
❌ Avoid Lapping At:
Beam-column junctions
Near slab levels
Near footing/top & bottom ends
📐 Additional IS Guidelines:
Lap only up to 50% of bars at one section
Provide staggered laps
Provide closer lateral ties (stirrups) in lap zone
Typical lap length ≈ 50d (tension), 40d (compression) (as per design conditions)

Epoxy-coated rebar (often called ECR) is conventional steel reinforcement coated with a thin layer of fusion-bonded epoxy (typically ~175–300 microns thick).

That coating acts as a dielectric barrier, isolating steel from moisture, oxygen, and chlorides—the primary drivers of corrosion.

Rebar corrosion is an electrochemical process. When chlorides pe*****te concrete, they break down the passive oxide layer on steel → corrosion starts → expansion → cracking → spalling.

👉 Epoxy coating interrupts this process by:

Blocking chloride ion ingress

Preventing electrochemical reactions

Reducing corrosion current density
