Misconceptions about Solar Power:
Misconception #1: Solar Modules are used for Hot Water -
NO. Solar Water Heaters are used for the purpose of water heating. They use the thermal energy in the sun. Solar modules generate electricity. They use the light energy of the sun.
Misconception #2: You need storage for solar power -
Not necessary. There can be photovoltaic systems that can act as a parallel source of power along with the grid. This way your requirement is shared between the grid and PV. Hence, your grid consumtion reduces.
Misconception #3: Solar power "isn't quite ready for prime time"-
No technology is ever "finished". Solar PV generation is a fairly mature technology at present, and research and development continues, of course.
Misconception #4: Electricity from solar power is expensive-
Cost of generation from solar power has started to become viable when looked at from the lifecycle cost. There is an initial investment involved but a well designed system can give you a payback of 4-6 years!
Misconception #5: Photovltaics is a failed technology
When a bad quality mobile starts to show problems within a short time of you purchasing it, do you blame the technology in general?
It is always a wrong choice of product or a bad design that leads to failures. Not the technology. Same is the case with Photovoltaics.
