Along the peaceful banks of the Relli River, we had the privilege of witnessing a cherished Lepcha tradition—community fishing, practised with patience, respect, and knowledge passed down through generations.

For the Lepcha community, rivers are more than waterways; they are living lifelines that nourish the land, sustain communities, and connect people to their ancestors and the natural world. The Relli eventually joins the mighty Teesta, carrying with it the stories of the forests, hills, and villages it has touched.

We were also honoured to learn about the role of Lepcha women, who continue to preserve their culture, traditions, and spiritual heritage. Their deep connection with the rivers and mountains reminds us that true prosperity comes from living in harmony with nature.

At Mansarover Homestay, we believe travel is about more than visiting a destination—it's about understanding its people, respecting its traditions, and protecting the landscapes that make it unique.

May the Relli and the Teesta continue to flow clean and free, inspiring generations to cherish the rich natural and cultural heritage of the Eastern Himalayas.

Just beyond the historic B.T. College grounds, a short walk from Mansarover Homestay, stands an abandoned bungalow that was once an elegant residence of Prince Peter of Greece and Denmark during his years in Kalimpong.
A fascinating figure of the 20th century, Prince Peter was a royal prince, soldier, and pioneering anthropologist. From this peaceful corner of the Himalayas, he carried out extensive research on Tibetan culture, society, and traditions, including his significant studies on Tibetan polyandry.
This was a time when Kalimpong flourished as a vibrant crossroads of Himalayan trade, scholarship, and diplomacy — a heritage town where cultures, ideas, and people from different worlds came together.
In those days, Kalimpong attracted explorers, scholars, missionaries, diplomats, traders, and intelligence operatives from around the world. Owing to its strategic location on the Indo-Tibetan frontier, the town earned a reputation as the “spy capital of the Himalayas" during the years leading up to and following China’s takeover of Tibet. It was a place where history, politics, and culture quietly intersected.
Sadly, the elegant bungalow was damaged by fire during the Gorkhaland agitation and now lies abandoned, slowly being reclaimed by nature. Yet its weathered walls continue to whisper stories of a remarkable era.
These forgotten heritage sites are living chapters of Kalimpong’s extraordinary heritage, reminding us of a time when this small Himalayan town stood at the crossroads of the world — welcoming royalty, scholars, explorers, traders, and those who shaped the history of the region.

It was a pleasure and an honour to host Dr. Munish Tamang and his associates at Mansarover Homestay, Kalimpong.

Dr. Tamang, the State Vice President of West Bengal Pradesh Congress and a distinguished scholar of the Indian Gorkha community, was in Kalimpong to attend the 212th Adhikabi Bhanubhakta Jayanti celebration at Ram Krishna Rangamanch, organised by नेपाली भाषा अध्ययन समिति, कालेबुङ.

At Mansarover Homestay, we believe that every guest is not just a visitor but becomes a part of our family. The evening spent with Dr. Tamang was a beautiful exchange of thoughts, wisdom, and experiences.

We had an enriching conversation on society, education, employment opportunities, the present political landscape, the aspirations and challenges of Indian Gorkhas, literature, art, culture, traditions, and the glorious history and evolving identity of Kalimpong.

Such meaningful interactions remind us that hospitality is not only about providing a place to stay, but also about creating connections, sharing stories, and cherishing memorable moments together.

We feel truly honoured to have welcomed Dr. Tamang and his associates into our home and to have shared such a memorable evening.

It was truly lovely hosting Mr. Sanjay Kumar, IAS, GST Commissioner, Government of Bihar, along with his wonderful family and friends, including sound engineer Doordarshan Bihar ,Mr ManIsh Raj and his lovely wife .

We feel grateful to have had the opportunity to host such warm, humble, peaceful, and down-to-earth guests. Their kindness, gratitude, and simplicity made their stay truly special.

We were delighted to organise a little birthday celebration for Mr. Sanjay’s daughter 1st birthday and create some beautiful memories together. It was a pleasure spending two wonderful days with such amazing people who came as guests and left as friends. They chose our homestay for their little daughter’s comfort and a peaceful stay before leaving for Mayfair.

Thank you for choosing us and becoming a part of our homestay journey. Guests like you make our journey so special. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future.
