COLOURS OF THE ADI GANGA

A short walk from the Tele Signals office building leads towards a ghat on the Adi Ganga—an ancient waterway that has shaped the history and identity of this part of Kolkata.
The office’s colour palette draws from this riverine context.
Blue-grey recalls the shifting tones of water, while warmer, earthy shades evoke loamy soil and exposed sandbanks. Together, these colours soften the project’s technological geometry and connect it to the landscape beyond its walls.
The palette becomes another form of site memory: quiet, atmospheric and rooted in the nearby river.

AN ARCHITECTURE OF SIGNALS

How do you translate a company’s work into architecture?
Tele Signals develops infrastructure and automation systems for railway signalling and track switching—systems that direct movement, connect routes and allow complex networks to operate safely.

This invisible network became the project’s visual language. Across the façade, driveway and interiors, lines travel, intersect and change direction. Geometric forms create rhythm and movement, while repeated connections evoke railway tracks, signals and coordinated systems.
Here, technology is more than a graphic reference. It becomes an organising principle—connecting the company’s identity with the experience of moving through the building.

What happens when an architecture project changes hands, its purpose shifts and its neighbourhood transforms—all while it is still being designed?

Tele Signals turns a partially built villa into a contemporary corporate office, mirroring Harish Mukherjee Road’s own transition from a residential neighbourhood to a mixed-use urban corridor.

The structure remained, but every space found a new purpose. Architecture evolved with its occupants—and its city.

What if your home’s entrance door could also be a mural?
We posed the idea to our art-loving clients—and they instantly said yes! That shared love for art led us to create this striking terracotta mural for SoCal House, inspired by the Bengal School of Art and brought to life through precise CNC engraving on HDHMR board.
More than an entrance, it is a work of art that sets the tone for the home beyond—rooted in tradition, crafted with technology, and designed to tell a story.

In SoCal House, Art doesn’t simply occupy the walls—it leads the design.
Teal travels from a Vaikuntham painting into the den’s cabinetry, while the smoky hues of Viraag Desai’s work flow into the grandmother’s indigo-grey room. Golf trophies and treasured HMV Rabindra Sangeet cassettes transform personal memories into curated displays.
By allowing colour to move from canvas to cabinetry, and from one room to the next, art becomes palette, transition and memory—connecting diverse spaces while making the home feel larger.

An unconventional colour scheme with a caramel base to highlight the recycled bed, chest of drawers, and the antique mirror in the guest bedroom initially faced some resistance from the clients. After explaining that a deep wall colour, offset by ivory draperies, creates the same effect as mahogany polished wood paneling with off-white walls, they quickly accepted the change.
