Inspiration doesn’t always come from Spaces.
Sometimes, it’s found in experiences.

Being featured in Good Homes alongside 52 creative minds and 250 inspirations was an invitation to pause and observe
💛Metal as Poetry
💛sculptures that hold emotion,

💛digital installations that play with perception,

and metal crafted with soul and precision.

These moments remind me that design is everywhere -
in material, form, texture, balance and storytelling.

As I step into 2026, these are the inspirations I’m consciously carrying forward —
the courage to blur boundaries,
to borrow from art, craft and culture,
and to create spaces that are experienced, not just seen.

Over a decade ago, we designed this fabulous space on the 8th floor of Mumbai’s St. Regis Hotel. Standing here again today, moderating a panel, my heart was filled with pride — because this is not just a space, it’s a story of challenges turned into beauty.

The shell we began with was far from ideal: a single-height volume, an intricate maze of structural beams, and an overwhelming web of services cutting across. But at Studio Rakhi M, we’ve always believed in making the maximum out of every site, no matter how challenging.

What followed were countless meetings with consultants, endless sketches, and a relentless pursuit to balance functionality with elegance. The result was a space layered with details and crafted with intent — from bespoke flooring patterns, jaali screens, ceiling compositions, chandeliers, to custom carpets — every element was designed, detailed, and brought to life with passion.

Today, more than 10 years later, the design continues to stand tall. Aside from minor maintenance touches, its essence remains unchanged. That is the true test of design — when it continues to inspire, endure, and remain relevant long after the moment has passed.

“As Philippe Starck reminds us, ‘A designer has a duty to create timeless design. To be timeless you have to think really far into the future, not next year, not in two years but in 20 years minimum.’ That is exactly what we hoped to achieve here — design that doesn’t just look beautiful, but keeps speaking, long after the moment passes.”

Rethinking Retail Spaces – Breathing New Life into Aging Malls

As I was standing in this beautiful atrium of a Dubai Mall, I wondered , - Retail is evolving faster than ever, but the soul of a mall is in how it continues to connect with its audience. Around the world, iconic retail destinations are staying relevant by reinventing themselves—not just cosmetically, but experientially.

From our experience at Studio Rakhi M, having transformed multiple mall atriums, facades, and common areas, here are 5 key design interventions that can help older malls thrive again:

o Facade Storytelling – Move beyond repairs; reimagine the entrance as an architectural statement that draws curiosity and sets expectations.
o Atrium Reprogramming – Use grand central spaces for immersive experiences, seasonal installations, and community-driven events that increase dwell time.
o Lighting as Emotion – Layered, dynamic lighting not only enhances ambience but directly influences visitor movement and comfort.
o Material Upgrades with Purpose – Introduce sustainable, tactile materials that are both durable and future-ready.
o Wayfinding with a Twist – Signage that is bold, and intuitive, can turn navigation into an experience.

Our perspective: Aging malls don’t just need a facelift—they need spaces that spark curiosity, invite participation, and encourage people to stay longer. Engaging public areas aren’t just aesthetically pleasing; they directly drive footfalls, increase customer loyalty, and boost the business performance of retail tenants.

An Entrance That Exudes Opulence. -As you approach the Pavilion, a subtle sense of grandeur emerges. Earth-toned stone veneer walls envelop the space with warmth and texture, while a majestic Buddha poster welcomes you with peaceful symbolism—a lovely, unexpected moment of reflection. A stunning chandelier floats above, capturing attention and guiding the eye toward the layered interior. Beyond, glimpses of the Celebration Tree and the private dining partition hint at what’s to come. This is not just an entrance—it’s the prelude to a meticulously crafted experience.
