The YMC Initiative

The YMC Initiative The Genesis of the YMC Initiative:

Yatindra Chandawarkar was an architect, a teacher, a guide, and a philosopher.

A personality with a great sense of humour, sarcasm and abundant knowledge. A person ready to share and appreciate, but within the boundaries of ethics and integrity. “Chandu”, as he was lovingly called by his students, left an everlasting and continuous impact on the minds of young architects. Meera Chandawarkar was an ever-smiling homemaker, culinary enthusiast, a friend, a guide and a mother. H

er love for cooking and feeding everyone, making her known as the “Annapurna”, is what endeared her to one and all. The YMC Initiative is a tribute to the spirit of Yatindra and Meera Chandawarkar….an effort to uphold the values held by both of them by promoting works of art, culture, social welfare and education.

Featured Painting: 'CHRYSANTHEMUMS' (Undated, Oil on Canvas, 3'x3')

This iconic painting represents love, happiness and optimism. The two symbolic flowers stand in a bed of green with the outstretched leaf symbolising the acceptance of their spiritual energies.
The red sun acts as very important focus and balances the visual content of the composition.

Featured Painting: 'MOTHER AND CHILD' (Undated, Oil on Canvas, 3' x 3')

This splendid composition shows the care of a mother towards her new born. The prominent lines showcase the protection that she intends to give to the new born. The stark background brings the focus on this wonderful relationship. Interestingly the window representing the society, “outside world” peeps in through the corner. The colour for the skin has been interestingly shown in a baby healthy pink. The mother has been shown with flowing full hair signifying the health.

Featured Painting: 'BULL' (1988, Watercolour on Paper, 2.5' x 2')

A single stroke at a time and finally the powerful picture of a bull. A watercolour on paper composition shows the bull facing right. A natural right handed person would draw it in the opposite direction. The artist has shown the ambidextrous quality within him after the paralytic attack to his right side. A composition depicting the bold and tenacious personality of the Artist.

Featured Painting: 'COBBLER' (1990, Inked on Canvas, 2' x 2.5')

As the saying goes,”God is in details”.
This composition gives the complete insight of the Artist’s focus, through the proportion, line weight and details.

Featured Painting: 'URBAN GARDEN' (Undated, Inked on Canvas, 2'6" x 3')

A quintessential urban forest. The forest is trained within the strong lines of the urban scape and the urban geometry. The sketch depicts the need for the humans to meet and interact and have the quality time essential for personal growth. The architectural elements in the form of columns, stairs, walls make a compelling statement. The Artist manages to use the similar texture to depict the foliage and humans.

Featured painting: MIRAGE (1988, Oil on canvas 2' x 3")

A static picture of an alien planet with a strong geological form is highlighted with the red aura behind. The landscape depicts a certain evolutionary effort. The series of suns seem to impregnate the land for a miracle to happen.
A certain dynamism is addressed in the racing, comet-like stellar body.
The composition has a compelling three dimensional effect which is intentional.

Featured Painting: 'UNTITLED' (1992, Inked on Canvas, 2'x3') - 'Women'

The composition showcases the women very symbolically sitting in a group, yet unabashedly portrays the liberation of the mind and body. The women shown to have let their hair loose – symbolising that they are uninhibited by the rules laid down by the society. The group is sitting outside of a shelter, showcasing that they have stepped out of the social norms set.
A statement is made through the use of the pen, in a flow depicting the feminine aspect strongly.
A question yet unanswered is the circle or a bindi which is set aside.

Featured Painting: 'MANU' (1991, Oil, 4'x4')

"Manu – the archetypal human, is represented in this painting through the boat personified.
A teacher, having performed his duty towards the need of the society and to his capacity, has now laid to rest the vehicle through which he carried his students.
The bare, arid, cold landscape is being defrosted by the sun and the painting embodies the Hope that in time to come, the ice would melt away and the vehicle - the Boat - would once again travel.
The ice, metaphorical, shows the shackles that society has tied itself in, the Sun, the cycle of Nature and the Boat determines Man’s initiative to take the society ahead."
