The most popular work of the famous architect Gaudi in Barcelona is Park Güell, located just a few steps from Gracia, on a hill in the suburb of Vallcarca. In 1900 Euzebi Guell bought this hill in order to arrange there a private garden city in English style. The areas in the park were designed to be sold for building the mansions and all the infrastructure and public places Guell commissioned to Gaudi. However, the project failed: for those who wanted to live in Barcelona, the park was too far from the center, but for those who wished to live outside the city it was too close. As a result, Güell’s heirs sold the hill to city authorities, who opened the park to the public.

The Krzywy Domek (Crooked House) is part of a shopping center in Sopot, Poland. It is three stories high, has a total of about 4,000 square meters and is now the “residence” of a pub called the Wonky Pub. Although it’s architecture is similar to that of the surrounding buildings, this Crooked House seems weary or melting. Ever since it was built, in 2004, the Crooked House became Poland’s most photographed building. It was designed by Szotyńscy & Zaleski who were inspired by the fairytale illustrations and drawings of Jan Marcin Szancer and Per Dahlberg.

Our designs dissolved the classic typography of tower and podium to create a seamlessly fluid new structure – establishing a vision for future achievements and referencing the university’s rich tradition. Conceptually, the university’s many different programs provided a guiding principle – ‘collateral flexibility’ – governing the tower’s internal logic
