My views on News X World about the Thailand pub fire that claimed around 30 lives.
The primary reason such places remain vulnerable is the blatant disregard for safety protocols.
Other key factors include:
1. Inadequate width of main doors and staircases
2. Absence of proper fire-exit staircases as per norms
3. Use of plastic and combustible interior materials that release toxic gases
4. Untrained staff and lack of public awareness about emergency response
5. Panic that leads to chaos and stampedes
6. The wrong belief that hiding in toilets can ensure safety
7. The fact that most deaths occur due to smoke inhalation, not fire
8. Sealed glass windows and doors that block escape routes
Unless we enforce codes and train people, such tragedies will keep repeating.
