walden.living Walden invites seekers, explorers and wanderers who want to slow down, breathe deep and embrace peace. This is the story of our tranquil farm stay.

Tucked away in the sylvan surroundings of Shivalik foothills, Walden is a small family-run permaculture farm in village Naurangpur, Ropar (Punjab), where all practices are firmly rooted in sustainable living. In this rustic refuge, we have sowed the seeds of conscious indulgence combined with simple living. Come along and immerse in an experiential stay at our family-run nature’s haven. Let’s conn

ect with the community and embrace the joys of farm living. Let’s move with the rhythm of life and play with the pleasure of being. Let your imagination fly—be a cloud watcher, a forest walker, or just be who you are when away from the chaos of city life. In the ancient town of Rupnagar (Ropar), in the land of the five rivers, Punjab there was a village called Naurangpur. Wide expanses of uninhabited fields led to it being called bae chirag mauza or “abandoned” in land records. Nestled in the sylvan foothills of the emerald Shivalik hills, amidst a landscape bequeathed with narrow seasonal streams and small heavenly hills—a dream sprouted up from these fields. First came the foundation, deep and determined, forged from ideas that seek alternatives to modern consumerism. Next, appeared the walls, solid and secure, moulded from mud taken from the earth beneath our feet. Finally, rose a roof, canopied above our heads to shelter and comfort. Here, we envision a way of life that celebrates the countryside and rejoice the bounties of nature. And now our dream is yours—a dream called Walden.

Ten acres of land.
A working permaculture farm.
Just four cottages, placed within it.

Forest around us.
Fields that change with the season.
Spaces that blend with the landscape.

Time spent here changes what feels important.
What’s enough begins to feel like more.

Stay begins at 9,100/-

A hive is not just where bees live. It is a working system.

Each part has a role. Eggs are raised differently depending on what the colony needs. Workers do most of the labour. Food is stored, brood is managed, and the colony keeps adjusting itself over time. What looks simple from outside is, in fact, a highly regulated living structure.

(hive system, bee colony, working hive, honeycomb structure, organized nature, bee life, colony behavior, worker bees, brood care, natural system, hive interior, honey storage)

After a while, you start recognising the patterns.

You start noticing how often things arrange themselves.

Seeds line up along a pod.
Branches split in repeat patterns.
Flowers open in a kind of balance.

These weren’t placed this way. This is how they grew.

Spending time here changes how you look at it. You begin to recognise these patterns instead of trying to shape them.

A month later, what stays with us isn’t just the harvest.
It’s how it gets used.

This winter, roots didn’t come in one size.
Some small, some larger, some unexpectedly big.

And each found its own place.

The smaller ones stayed delicate — raw, lightly dressed.
The larger ones went slower — roasted, baked.
And the unexpectedly big ones went straight to the chickens.

Not everything grows the same. So not everything is used the same way.

At Walden, sweetness begins in the field. Sugarcane is planted in February and March and takes close to a year before it is ready for harvest the following winter.

Once cut, the cane is taken to Rajinder’s home in the nearby village, where fresh juice is boiled slowly over a wood fire. From this, gur is formed, dense and mineral-rich, and shakkar, its hand-pounded powdered form. Nothing is refined or removed.

What remains is the character of the cane itself, made in small batches, as it has been for generations.

At Walden, design grows from the land it stands on. Built using local mud, sheesham wood, and reclaimed materials, each structure is shaped to work with climate, light, and wind rather than against them. East-facing openings invite purvai breezes, winter sun warms the mud walls, and summer heat is gently kept at bay. Open views frame fields and sky, blurring the line between indoors and outdoors, so living here feels less constructed and more in quiet conversation with the landscape.

Not a hotel stay. A place to settle into. Sunlight across the bed. Curtains moving with the breeze. A chair by the window. A morning that begins without urgency. Afternoons stretch. Evenings arrive softly. You move less. You notice more.
And somewhere in between, time starts to feel like your own again. You don’t do much here. And that’s exactly the point.

Time shifts quickly this time of year. Just weeks apart, the farm can move from deep winter stillness to something that already feels like summer. You start noticing it in small ways — longer light, sudden blossoms, bees returning to familiar routes, water warming life to move again. Nothing dramatic, yet everything changing all
at once.

A day in the kitchen at Walden.

Roots on the board.
Fruit slowly bottled.
Citrus picked by hand.
Grains waiting in the fields.

A quiet kitchen, open to the day —
meals shaped by what’s just been gathered. 🌾

Six months collapse strangely on a farm. What stood here not long ago felt almost forest like — tall arhar, dense enough to hold shade, movement, life. And then one day it’s cut, carried away, and the land is suddenly open again.

That moment — when a field shifts from towering to bare — always slows us down. It reminds us how quickly fullness passes, and how quietly the land keeps turning underneath it all.
