Why a grid-tie system?
Mr. Chitrarasan lives in Tiruchengode, Tamilnadu. They have been selling, distributing and spreading the knowledge of solar with Lotus Solar Energies for a while now. Mr. Chitrarasan has an interesting solar where he shares his everyday solar installation experiences with everyone so that they can see the practical aspects of buying a solar system.
The area where his home is located in is blessed with continuous electricity supply. Mr. Chitrarasan, who is the owner of this home usually paid a monthly electricity bill of INR 5000 to run his home load.
After a meeting, Chitrarasan planned to reduce his electricity bills and bring it to almost zero he should go in for an on-grid system. Since, power is available at almost all times, so it is advisable to install a grid-tie system here.
How is a grid-tie inverter better than a regular inverter?
Grid-tie inverters are amazingly designed machines that basically enable you to feed back the excess solar energy generated to the grid and adjust the energy. Excess solar energy means the energy you don’t use to run your load.
Grid-tie inverters are always connected to the grid. One cannot install grid-tie inverters in areas that do not receive any mains supply. As compared to an off-grid system, a grid-tie system also provides freedom from battery maintenance making it essentially a one-time investment and a lifetime of advantage.
Units generated per day
In this two-floored home, he has installed 5kw grid tie solar power plant .The grid-tie inverter generates about 25 units of solar power on full sunny day. We can take an average of 20 units generated from the solar system depending on weather conditions.
How does net metering work?
The concept of selling back solar energy to the electricity board is called ‘Net metering’. Let us understand this with an example.
In this case, the solar panels will generate approximately 600 units of electricity per month. So let’s take, for example, that this home uses 500 units out of 600 units from solar power to run the load and exports the rest of 100 units to the electricity board. He also imports 50 units from the electricity board to run his load.
So now Chitrarasan pays zero electricity bill as he has exported 100 Units to the grid and used 50. The extra 50 units gets added to his account for the next month.
This is the net metering concept.
We wish Mr.Chitrarasan and his family all the best for his future with Lotus Solar Energies
