USC House | Understanding the Facade, layer by layer.
Strategy
The south-facing facade presented multiple challenges, including harsh sunlight, heavy rainfall exposure, structural limitations of the existing building and a constrained budget.
After evaluating several high-impact materials, the project adopted stone veneer sheets as a cost-effective and sustainable solution.
These ultra-thin layers of natural stone—extracted from slate, quartzite, sandstone, and marble—are bonded to a fiberglass backing, producing a lightweight yet durable surface.
- Isometric Detail
The facade assembly consists of a stainless steel subframe supporting AAC (Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) panels, onto which the stone veneer is applied. The palette uses red Agra stone and black slate, creating a textured yet restrained expression that responds to both climate and context while minimizing material load on the existing structure.
