🥇 First Prize – 2025
We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded first prize in the Competition of Ideas for the requalification of Strada Spolverina in Cerese di Borgo Virgilio!
Our linear park project reimagines Strada Spolverina, transforming it from a barrier into a physical and ecological connection. Our vision is built on the concept of permeability, which we address on three levels: mobility, ecology, and water management.
We've completely redesigned the mobility system by reducing the carriageway, introducing a 30 km/h zone, and adding new protected pedestrian and cycle paths. Ten new strategic crossings will reconnect the fragmented urban fabric.
Ecological permeability is achieved by transforming 2,823 sqm of asphalt into green, draining areas. We will plant 95 new trees and 300 native plants to improve air quality, boost biodiversity, and reduce the urban heat island effect.
A key feature of the project is the Rain Garden system. Inspired by the historical Canale Paiolo Alto, this ecological infrastructure will manage stormwater according to the principles of a "sponge city," creating a new connection between the urban and rural landscape.
The project is completed with the introduction of new social spaces and brick seating along the paths, which we envision as "urban living rooms." This project demonstrates how a road can become a multifunctional, resilient, and identity-defining infrastructure for the community.
