ADAT is a multidisciplinary office focused on Integrated Design, from large-scale planning to interactive furniture and devices. With a vast network of employees, collaborators and consultants, the office develops projects from early concept to on site-supervision, always maintaining a rigorous approach oriented to a visionary concreteness. We work with governments, municipalities, academics, corp

orations and private clients in Asia, the Americas and Europe, investigating new forms of urban and rural living with a flexible and curious attitude, without any preconceptions or absolute solutions. The client, the site and the community always have specific needs that become concrete actions thanks to our mediation. For this reason, our process is always case-specific and tailored to the peculiarities of the challenge, solving complexity and opening up to new visions.

U-DESIGN MUSEUM
Competition entry

Our proposal for Helsinki’s New Museum of Architecture and Design redefines the city’s skyline with its bold U-shaped form, bridging historical context with contemporary ambition.
Its sloping roof and transparent skin connect past and present, creating a landmark that reflects the city’s evolving identity.

More than a building, the museum creates a vibrant civic space, fostering connections between the city, its residents, and its architectural form. Natural light, curated views, and a rooftop terrace transform the building into an immersive urban gallery.

Rooted in sustainability, the building incorporates a versatile rhombus skin system that maximizes daylight while minimizing heat loss. The use of local materials—such as glue-laminated timber beams, Finnish wood, and stone—along with upcycled glass and passive energy systems, establishes the museum as a model of ecological, social, and economic sustainability.
