Why does my toilet stink?
Besides the obvious reasons, many of our clients ask us to help with bathroom odors. Despite keeping a tidy bathroom they are plagued with bad smells that turn your spa retreat into something worse than a trucker stop. Lets go through the top 3 reasons bathrooms stink and how to remedy it!
1. Your toilet's nooks and crannies. Despite being a simple design, many toilets have lots of little crevices that odors and soil like to hide. Be sure to carefully check these hotspots: Under the rim, around the hinges, under the lid bolts, and around the floor bolts. To get to these little corners I recommend using a small detail brush or steam cleaner. I also recommend removing the toilet lid and cleaning under it every few months ( you will be surprised how much p*e you will find!)
2. The wall behind your toilet and any nearby objects like garbage cans or toilet brushes. These areas are often victims of "splashback." A slightly acidic detergent (such as dish soap mixed with a bit of citric acid) can help dissolve any urine calculus on the wall and garbage can with ease. Any hard-to-remove stains can be gently tackled with a magic eraser but be careful to not damage your walls!
3. Your bathroom rug. Often trodden upon by soggy feet these plush little rugs absorb more than water. To keep bathroom odors and mold down, I recommend washing once a week in hot water with an enzymatic cleaner to help dissolve any urine and kill any mold spores.
If you focus on these hot spots, your bathroom will be feeling fresher than ever. If this seems like a lot, why not try booking a bathroom deep cleaning with us? We expertly clean from top to bottom using our natural chemicals to ensure you have a sparkling bathroom in no time!
