Last week, our team at Mount Elgon Orchards Ltd. came together for a powerful 2-day Gender Committee Training led by the Agricultural Employers’ Association 💬🌱

From understanding key gender concepts to strengthening leadership and tackling real workplace challenges like conflict management, sexual harassment, and mental wellness — it was an inspiring and eye-opening experience for everyone involved.

The importance of creating a workplace where everyone feels safe, heard, and valued.

Happy 60th Birthday to the Big Boss — Bob Andersen! 🎉

Today we celebrate an extraordinary man — our Managing Director, mentor, colleague, and above all, an inspiration: Bob Andersen.

Since taking over the farm in 1993, Bob has transformed it into a thriving enterprise of 400 hectares — now home to 1,800 employees and producing an incredible 90 million roses and 12 million avocados each year. Beyond its success, the farm stands as a model of sustainability, with 150 hectares of preserved wild forest, responsible water systems, and a strong commitment toward becoming carbon neutral.

But Bob’s impact reaches far beyond the farm.

In 2005, he helped establish a trust with Dr. Bea that has since grown into a lifeline for the community — supporting a hospital that treats 26,000 patients annually, three schools educating 4,000 children, an orphanage, and countless development projects that uplift hundreds of lives every month.

Bob is many things — a pilot, an international businessman — but at heart, he proudly remains “just a farmer.” A farmer with vision, humor, and an unmatched ability to bring energy, laughter, and purpose into every room.

He is a devoted father, a loyal friend, a caring brother, and a deeply loved partner. And perhaps his greatest achievement of all is one still in progress: creating opportunities, building livelihoods, and lifting people out of poverty.

Bob, we are incredibly proud to work alongside you. Thank you for your leadership, your passion, and your unwavering belief in what’s possible.

CLIMATE CHANGE — This year has hit us hard. Just last month, our avocado orchards were flooded along with much of the country (see last slide). Yesterday, a massive hailstorm tore through the farm, damaging avocados, battering trees, toppling indigenous plants, and ripping open greenhouses.

We’re incredibly grateful that no one was hurt. Our team is already working tirelessly to clear up and begin repairs. The rainy season, which usually starts at the end of March, arrived a month early—and with twice the intensity. This is part of farm life, but it’s becoming more unpredictable every year.

Climate change is no longer a distant threat—it’s here, it’s accelerating, and it’s reshaping livelihoods in real time.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMENSDAY - Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the incredible women who are the heart and strength of our farm in Kenya.

Every day, these women work tirelessly in the fields, greenhouses, and grading hall to support their families and help feed their communities. Their knowledge, resilience, and dedication are at the core of everything we grow and build together.

The women around us show every day what true strength and perseverance look like. They are farmers, mothers, leaders, and role models for the next generation.

Today we honor them and reaffirm our commitment to creating opportunities where women in agriculture can thrive, lead, and shape a better future.

MEET THE TEAM – My name is Nick Justus and I’ve been working at MEO for 7 years. I’ve recently moved from our procurement office to become Production Logistics Manager from 2026. Procurement duties include: Sourcing of products for the farm and ensuring good stock levels for all supplies are maintained. Now I ensure all supplies are collected from Nairobi, keeping up to date with all statutory requirements for all vehicles leaving the farm and ensuring all flowers are delivered timeously from greenhouses to cold room facilities. In addition I help organise that all greenhouse collection vehicles and staff are present on a daily basis and that all greenhouse requirements are available for smooth flow of production to ensure quality and production is maintained.
I thoroughly enjoy working at MEO as it gives me the opportunity to apply my skills gained during my career and work with a great team. The Management team is very professional and willing to help out to provide solutions for challenges collectively. Overall, it’s a good healthy environment to be in.

The challenges I’ve experienced are mainly communication related. But this I believe has improved immensely over the past 3 years and is one of the areas I really discuss with all teams on a daily basis.

My future at MEO: I believe that as long as I am making a good contribution to the Company, then I’m very happy to continue working for as long as possible. I’m very excited about the new SEZ project and would like to be involved in the company’s extension plans. The fact that our MD Bob Andersen puts everything back into the Company is truly inspiring and that gives me the confidence for the future - one that I’d like to be part of.
