The earth wire, also known as the ground wire, is designed to provide a safe path for excess current to flow into the ground in the event of a fault in an electrical system. This helps prevent electric shocks and protects equipment and property from damage. When there's a fault, such as a short circuit or a ground fault, the excess current flows through the earth wire and safely dissipates into the ground, rather than flowing through unintended paths like metal conduits or building structures.
