🌍 The Vital Role of Public Participation in Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) 🌍

Last week, I had the privilege of conducting public participation sessions for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) in Nanyuki and Kiambu. These sessions are not just a procedural requirement but a cornerstone of responsible environmental stewardship in Kenya.

Under the Kenyan Constitution and environmental laws, such as the Environmental Management and Coordination Act (EMCA), public participation is crucial in the EIA process. This requirement ensures that:

Community Voices Are Heard: Local communities, who are often the most affected by environmental changes, have a platform to voice their concerns and suggestions.
Enhanced Transparency: Engaging the public fosters trust and transparency, making the assessment process more inclusive and democratic.
