We've been slowly adding various elements to this garden over the last couple of years and it's been nice to see the plants growing up around them. We love doing garden design because we're able to create beautiful spaces to live in, to feel creative in, to play in and where you can take a deep breath to find some peace in this mad world.

The redesign and renovations we did at Shangilia Skatepark in Nairobi were completed over a year ago. It was originally built by back in 2013 but due to maintenance issues, it was in need of some TLC. Along with the face-lift, we took the opportunity to make some adjustments to the design to improve the flow, make it more beginner-friendly and create some new features for the intermediate users.
It is located at Tumshaglieni Children's Home in Loresho, Nairobi.

Heaven is a halfpipe! Or a skate treehouse! This also doubles as a yoga deck with the wonderful serene view of the wooded valley below.
We had to fit the ramp between all the trees which was quite a challenge and then build the rest of the deck around them, taking into account the varying elevations of the site. At the highest point, it's more than 10 ft off the ground!

We're pretty chuffed with this one and our client is excited that he can skate in any weather!

Monkey bars, a climbing wall and sand, a fun extension to an existing playhouse. We also fixed up a few items on the old playhouse to make it usable and safe again. It's important to use good hardware and fixtures in building play spaces. We never use nails, only screws and various types of nuts and bolts. They are much safer for securing items that get hard use and a considerable amount of movement, like monkey bars. Nails break, they don't hold on to the wood as well as a screw and if you have to dismantle the structure, nails are difficult to remove without damaging the wood. Safe, quality construction is a little more pricey but it's worth it. Don't skimp on your children's safety.

It ain't no skatepark but these little ramps we did for a client will help the kids zoom around the house on bikes, boards or in-line skates all day and who knows, maybe they'll ask us to come back and add some bigger ramps to these so they can level up! Sometimes I feel like I'm sculpting art pieces that people use for having fun. It satisfies so many parts of my being and I love seeing the excitement and joy on the faces of the people who use our creations. We've been busy working on a couple of mountain bike trails up at in Molo. It's fun making cool shapes in the forest, using the existing features in the landscape and adding to them. The wet weather definitely presents a serious challenge for the design and the actual build. More pictures and videos to come when it's completed.
