The second and last day of the Africa Public Service celebrations (APSD) 2026 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi went on well with a colorful closing ceremony.

The Chief guest of the celebrations; Hon. Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Social Programmes accompanied by Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, PhD, Principal Secretary, State Department for Public Service officiated the ceremony. In his speech he urged public servants to provide effective and efficient service delivery to Kenyans at all times.

The Authority continued attracting various stakeholders in its exhibition booth including collaborators, large, medium and small scale farmers, financial institutions among others.

The Authority continues to deliver service to Kenyans in courteous and effective way as it works towards making Kenya a food secure and prosperous nation as envisioned in the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The National Irrigation Authority is participating in the two-day Africa Public Service Day (APSD) 2026 celebrations at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi. The event brings together public institutions, policymakers, development partners, and stakeholders to showcase innovations, strengthen collaboration, and improve public service delivery.

Held under the theme, “Enhancing Public Sector Institutional Empowering through Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships to Achieve Universal Water Availability and Safe Sanitation by 2063,” APSD 2026 provides a platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and citizen engagement across the public sector.

The event was graced by Hon. Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku,Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development and social programmes who was hosted by Dr.Jane Kere Imbunya, (PhD) Principal Secretary, State department for Public Service.

At the event, the Authority showcased its mandate, projects across the country, impact of those projects and their contribution to food security and sustainable development in Kenya.

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Irrigation Authority Eng. Charles Muasya, MBS together with the management and senior staff today conducted an inspection visit to the Gwa Kiongo Earth Dam Project in Mirangine Ward, Ol Kalou Constituency, Nyandarua County, while also engaging the local community through a public participation forum.

The engagement provided an opportunity for residents and project beneficiaries to share their views as the Authority reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive project implementation.

During the visit, the CEO assessed the progress of the ongoing works, including the construction of the pump house, the planned reticulation system, water storage tanks, spillway expansion, and the installation of a solarized pumping unit. It was noted that pipes have already been delivered to the site, with the contractor mobilizing materials for the next phase of construction.

The Gwa Kiongo Earth Dam Project will irrigate 250 acres of land, directly benefiting 1,000 households through increased agricultural productivity, improved food security and enhanced livelihoods.

The CEO emphasized the importance of timely completion of the project, continued stakeholder engagement and capacity building for beneficiaries to ensure the sustainable management and long-term success of the irrigation project.

Once completed, the project is expected to create employment opportunities, strengthen food and nutrition security, promote wealth creation through agricultural value chains and support the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Today, the Principal Secretary, State Department for Irrigation, CPA Ephantus Kimotho CBS, conducted an inspection tour of the Bura Irrigation Scheme in Tana River County.

He was accompanied by the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) CEO, Eng. Charles Muasya, Bura Constituency Member of Parliament Hon. Yakub Adow Kuno, officers from the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning, State Department for Irrigation (SDI), National Irrigation Authority (NIA), Government Administration Officers (NGAO), other senior government officials and local leaders.

During the visit, the Principal Secretary held a stakeholder consultative meeting with members of the community and local leaders on the commercialization of the Bura Irrigation Scheme. The engagement provided a platform for stakeholders to build consensus on sustainable solutions and chart a clear roadmap for the revitalization and expansion of the scheme, including irrigation infrastructure development and supportive resources.

The PS also inspected preparatory works for the construction of two bridges at Village 2 and Village 6, which are expected to greatly improve the movement of produce from the irrigation scheme to the market, thereby promoting economic growth for the farmers and surrounding communities.

Additionally, the PS oversaw the issuance of Green Cards to locals. During the issuance, he stated that the Green Cards will promote economic security and empower residents with structured land ownership in the larger Bura Irrigation Scheme.

The tour underscored the government’s commitment to addressing implementation challenges, enhancing infrastructure, and unlocking the full economic potential of the scheme for improved food security and livelihoods in the region.

The Authority is committed to ensuring maximum utilization of the Bura gravity water for food production as envisioned in the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda ( BeTA).

Today, the CEO of the National Irrigation Authority (NIA), Eng. Charles Muasya accompanied by other members of staff from Head Office and the Central & Lower Rift Valley Region joined the Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service Mr. Felix Koskei in prayer and thanks giving day at Kapsigilai Girls Senior School in Chemilil/ Chemase ward of Tinderet Consistuency, Nandi County.

The school falls within the Chemase Irrigation Project area where the CEO conducted compressive site inspection and community engagement yesterday. Apart from Chemase, he also inspected and engaged beneficiaries of Kaptemwua, Kapkoros and Meteitei Irrigation projects.

During the visit, the CEO inspected the Kapkoros Phase I infrastructure works including the sedimentation basin, main lines, and infield sprinkler system while also engaging with members of the local community on the progress and benefits of the project.

The inspection further covered the rehabilitation of the Chemase Irrigation System where the team interacted with farmers and discussed the impact of the rehabilitation works on farming activities and water distribution.

Additionally, the CEO assessed the repair works on the conveyance system of the Meteitei pipeline and later visited the Kaptemwua Irrigation Project to review the implementation progress of the ongoing works and engage farmers on uptake of the project once it is complete.

The projects beneficiaries appreciated the Authority for the ongoing works and pledged to ensure full utilization of the installed infrastructure once the projects are complete.

The CEO reiterated the need to fully utilize the installed irrigation infrastructure for food production to enhance household income and economic growth. He assured farmers that the Authority will continue to enhance their capacity through continous training in the best Agronomic practices.

Completion and full operationalization of these projects will immensely increase food production in the region and beyond as well as contribute to the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BeTA) targets on food security.
