The technician was ready to replace the board.
That would have been an expensive mistake.
A KONE elevator reported Fault Code 0021, and at first glance, the fault seemed serious enough to point people toward the controller.
Many maintenance teams have seen situations like this:
A fault appears.
A major component becomes the first suspect.
And valuable time starts disappearing.
In this case, the troubleshooting process went in a very different direction.
What looked like a controller-related fault turned out to have a completely different cause.
The interesting part?
The elevator was giving clues the whole time.
Most people just weren't looking in the right place.
We recently documented the full troubleshooting process, including what was checked, what was ruled out, and how the actual cause was identified.

The customer said the part was “almost the same.”
That word — almost — was the problem.
He needed an elevator door lock for a maintenance job, and another supplier had already offered a cheaper option.
The photos looked close.
The size looked close.
Even the mounting holes looked close.
But before giving a quote, we asked for one more detail:
the contact configuration.
That small check changed the order.
The lock body looked similar,
but the contact type was different.
If the wrong one had been installed, the elevator might still refuse to run, and the technician would have spent more time looking for a fault that was actually caused by the wrong part.
The customer later told us:
“I was about to choose the cheaper one.”
That is exactly where many spare parts mistakes begin.
In elevator maintenance, “almost the same” is not enough.
At Novus Elevator, we help contractors check the details before ordering, because the right part saves more than money — it saves time on site.

We had the part in stock.
But we still told the customer:
“Don’t pay yet.”
Sounds strange, right?
He needed an elevator brake module urgently.
The elevator was down, and the maintenance team wanted it shipped the same day.
From the photo, the module looked correct.
Same casing.
Same terminal layout.
Same general size.
But brake parts are not something we rush.
Before confirming the order, we asked for:
• Brake coil voltage
• Machine model
• Old module label
• Terminal markings
• Control cabinet photo
That one extra check changed the order.
The module looked right,
but the voltage specification did not match the existing brake system.
If we had shipped it immediately,
the customer might have received a part that could not solve the problem on site.
Fast shipping would not have helped.
It would have created another delay.
So we confirmed the correct version first, then prepared the replacement.
The customer later said:
“Most suppliers would have shipped it. You stopped us from making another mistake.”
That is the kind of supply work we believe in.
Having stock is important.
But sending the right stock is what protects the project.
At Novus Elevator, we would rather check one more detail before shipping than let a customer lose another day on site.

The customer was not looking for the cheapest price anymore.
He was looking for the part that would finally fit.
A maintenance company had already ordered the wrong escalator step roller twice from different suppliers.
Both looked close.
Same diameter.
Similar shape.
Almost the same bearing size.
But after installation, the roller still did not run smoothly.
When they came to us, the first message was simple:
“Please don’t just quote. Help us check it properly.”
So before giving any price, we asked for:
• Roller diameter
• Bearing number
• Step chain type
• Shaft size
• Old roller photos from both sides
• Escalator brand and model
That is where the problem showed up.
The outside diameter was right,
but the bearing and shaft matching were not.
A small difference, but enough to create noise, wear, and another failed replacement.
We confirmed the correct version before quoting.
The customer later said:
“This time we cared less about the lowest price. We just needed the right one.”
That is something many elevator and escalator contractors understand.
A wrong part is not just a wrong part.
It means extra labor, another site visit, more downtime, and a customer waiting for answers.
At Novus Elevator, we do not want to win an order by quoting fast.
We want to help customers avoid ordering the same wrong part again.

The easiest order of the day almost became the most expensive return.

A customer asked for a light curtain replacement.

“Same size. Same look. Can you ship today?”

It looked simple at first.

But before we confirmed the order,
we asked for one extra detail:

a photo of the connector.

That photo changed everything.

The height was close.
The profile looked right.
But the connector and signal type were different.

If we had shipped it right away,
the customer could have installed it and still had the same door problem.

Door reopening.
False detection.
More time wasted on site.

So we checked the old label, connector type, voltage, and door operator information first.

Only then did we confirm the correct replacement.

The customer later said:

“I thought a light curtain was easy to match.”

That is usually where mistakes happen.

Some elevator parts look simple from the outside,
but the details decide whether they actually work.

At Novus Elevator, we would rather check one more photo before shipping than let a customer lose another day on site.

A fault that disappears after reset is often the one technicians should take more seriously.

In this OTIS OH6000 case, the elevator repeatedly showed 2705 fault near the 25th floor. At first, it looked like one unstable leveling sensor — but the fault came back later the same day.

The real lesson: when leveling signals are unstable, checking only one sensor may not be enough. Upper and lower leveling sensors can both affect DIS signal judgment, re-leveling behavior, and repeated fault protection.

An OTIS passenger elevator equipped with an OH6000 control system repeatedly reported 2705 fault during operation.

The whole job was almost finished.

Then one small escalator part stopped everything.

A contractor was preparing for handover, but one comb plate was damaged during final inspection.

At first, it sounded simple:

“Just send the same one.”

But comb plates are not something we confirm by appearance only.

Before quoting, we asked for:

• Escalator brand
• Step width
• Tooth shape
• Mounting hole distance
• Left / right side details
• Photo of the old comb plate

One detail was easy to miss.

The tooth shape looked similar,
but the mounting holes were slightly different.

If they had installed the wrong one,
it would not sit properly — and the project could have lost more time.

So we confirmed the correct version before shipping.

The client later said:

“I didn’t expect such a small part to delay the handover.”

That happens more often than people think.

In elevator and escalator projects, the part that looks the simplest can sometimes create the biggest headache.

At Novus Elevator, we check the details first — because a wrong part delivered quickly is still a delay.

A little rust on elevator wire ropes can tell a much bigger story.

For TKE elevators, wire rope rust is not just about appearance — it may point to humidity, poor lubrication, long-term wear, or a maintenance risk that should not be ignored.

Before replacing the rope, it’s important to know what kind of rust can be cleaned, and what kind means the rope should be replaced.

Learn how to inspect and treat rust on elevator wire ropes. This guide explains causes, maintenance methods, and when to replace TKE elevator steel ropes.

The cheaper quote almost looked like the better choice.

Until we checked the encoder label.

A customer was sourcing an elevator encoder for a traction machine.
At first, he only wanted to compare prices.

Same brand.
Similar appearance.
Almost the same part number.

But before quoting, we asked for a few details:

• Encoder label
• Connector photo
• Shaft size
• Pulse information
• Machine model

That is when we found the problem.

The encoder looked right,
but the signal specification was different.

If the wrong one was installed, the elevator could still have unstable running, leveling issues, or repeated fault checks.

The customer paused for a moment and said:

“So the cheaper one was not actually the same one.”

Exactly.

In elevator spare parts, comparing prices only makes sense after confirming the part is truly correct.

At Novus Elevator, we would rather slow down the quote than let a customer receive a part that creates more work on site.

A clear label photo can save a lot more than a fast price.
