Hi, Welcome to our collection of home design articles.
Calculating Quantity of Materials in a Concrete slab.
Quantity of the concrete slab – 1000 cu. Ft.
Grade 20 – 1:2:4 (¾”) (Cement + Sand + Metal + Water) mixture.
Slab thickness - 5”
In construction we base on cement to make the mixture. So normal cement bag is 50 Kg & volume1.25 Cu.ft.
As per Grade 20 ratio for 1 unit of cement (1.25 cu. ft.) to be mix with 2.5cu.ft. of sand and 5.0 cu. ft of metal.
Total volume comes 8.75 cu.ft.
Usage of 25L of water is sufficient for 1 bag of cement.
So total number of units for 1000 cu. ft {1000/8.75=114.3}
Means 114.3 cement bags.
Sand 114 x 2.5 = 285cu. ft.
Metal 114x 5.0 = 570 cu.ft.
When cement and aggregates get mixed naturally volume is get shrunk. Therefore, we have to add more volume into that. This is called shrinkage which is recommended 1.57 of the content.
114.3 x 1.57 = 179.5 Say 180 cement bags.
Sand 114 x 2.5 x 1.57 = 447.5 say 450 cu.ft. Sand (fine aggregate)
Metal 114x 5.0 x 1.57 = 895 cu.ft. ¾” Metal (coarse aggregate)
Hope you enjoyed simple method to retrieve the quantity of materials. I would like to have your comments too.
