Situated within the leafy enclave of Poes Garden, Chennai, Riddhi is an ultra-luxury residential development by Vishranthi Homes Pvt. Ltd., conceived as a contemporary expression of timeless living. Designed by PWA under Archt. Philip Weeraratne, Archt. Ravi Karunanayke & Archt. Akilan Raajkumar, the ground + 5-storey development comprises just five exclusive 4,200 sq.ft. residences—one expansive home on each floor—where privacy, generosity of space, and understated elegance define the architectural experience.

Although located in the heart of one of Chennai’s most prestigious neighbourhoods, the site feels remarkably secluded. Shielded by mature trees and removed from the rhythm of the surrounding city, the arrival unfolds into an environment of calm and quiet. The architecture embraces this rare condition, creating a sanctuary where urban living is softened by landscape, light, and silence.

The architectural language is rooted in timelessness—a contemporary interpretation of soft classical architecture distilled through clean lines, restrained detailing, and balanced proportions. Rather than relying on ornament, the design celebrates permanence through composition, rhythm, and carefully considered materiality. Generous living spaces, abundant natural light, and seamless spatial flow reinforce a sense of openness while maintaining the intimacy of a private residence.

Every aspect of the project is shaped around the experience of living well. From the exclusivity of a single residence per floor to the quiet relationship between architecture and its verdant surroundings, Riddhi offers a rare balance between the energy of the city and the serenity of home—where luxury is expressed not through excess, but through space, privacy, and enduring design.

Building upon the architectural language established throughout the development, the guest accommodation at Jetwing Kandy continues a design approach rooted in clarity, restraint, and a strong connection to place. Designed by Archt. Ravindu Karunanayake with the support of Archt. Wepul Arachchige under the overall guidance of Archt. Philip Weeraratne, the interiors extend the project’s contemporary expression through refined materiality, balanced proportions, and a deliberate engagement with the surrounding landscape.

The bedrooms are conceived as understated retreats, where natural textures, carefully framed openings, and an abundance of daylight shape the spatial experience. Clean lines and a restrained material palette allow the architecture to foreground the landscape, reinforcing a seamless relationship between interior and exterior.

Positioned within the natural contours of the site, the outdoor pool becomes an extension of the architectural composition. More than a recreational element, it contributes to the rhythm of the landscape—bringing together water, vegetation, and built form in a setting that reflects the quiet character of Jetwing Kandy.

Set against the quiet hills of Kandy, Jetwing Kandy is conceived as a contemporary retreat that negotiates between landscape, heritage, and modern luxury. Led by Archt. Ravindu Karunanayake along with the support of Archt. Wepul Arachchige under the overall guidance of Archt. Philip Weeraratne.

Positioned along the edge of the Mahaweli River, the architecture opens itself outward—framing distant mountains, water, and sky as part of the spatial experience. The building reads as a series of horizontal planes and layered volumes, where deep overhangs and terraces soften the mass while responding to the tropical climate.

The composition balances symmetry with porosity. A strong central axis anchors the façade, while recessed verandahs, open corridors, and permeable edges dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior. Materially, the palette draws from local textures—stone, timber, and earth-toned finishes—paired with clean contemporary lines. This dialogue between tradition and modernity reflects the cultural narrative of Kandy itself, where architecture becomes both shelter and storytelling.

At night, the building transforms into a luminous pavilion. Warm, layered lighting accentuates depth—revealing structural rhythms, framed openings, and the tactility of surfaces. The pool in the foreground becomes a reflective plane, doubling the architecture and reinforcing its symmetry. As a whole, the project operates less as a singular object and more as an immersive environment—where art, landscape, and built form are curated into a cohesive architectural experience.

PWA, as a dynamic and visionary practice based in Sri Lanka, we are particularly excited to be entrusted with shaping this landmark development. The project represents a remarkable architectural journey, bringing together local design leadership and international collaboration, including specialist façade design input from SOG Singapore. It is a privilege to contribute to a project of this scale and ambition, helping define a new chapter in the architectural story of Port City.

An urban sanctuary in the sky, conceived as an open embrace toward the waterfront and surrounding parkland, this twin-tower residence brings a new expression of contemporary tropical living to Port City through light, openness, and connection to nature.

Sculptural frames, layered terraces, and expansive glazing create an architecture that shifts throughout the day, reflecting the sky, capturing ocean breezes, and framing uninterrupted views toward the waterway and the Indian Ocean beyond. Elevated gardens, sky courts, and shared spaces extend the landscape vertically, blurring the boundary between city and retreat while contributing a distinct identity to the evolving Port City skyline.

A quiet journey, composed with intention.

At the conceptual stage, the Tangalle Wellness Center is envisioned as a 1650 sqm hospitality project in Tangalle, Sri Lanka. It unfolds as a sequence of spaces, each guiding the body inward and the mind toward stillness. Movement becomes ritual, as light, scale, and atmosphere are carefully tuned to shape a gradual transition from arrival to introspection. Anchored by a strong axial spine, the experience becomes a continuous, immersive landscape where every threshold deepens a sense of calm. Here, architecture is not just occupied. It is felt.

Conceptualized and led by Archt. Sumith Perera and Archt. Philip Weeraratne, along with architectural assistance from Archt. Damien Fernando the project reflects a shared exploration of spatial clarity, atmosphere, and contemplative living.

Set within a lush estate in Baddegama, overlooking the Gin River, the residence transforms at dusk into a softly illuminated retreat—its presence revealed through layers of light and shadow. Led by Archt. Ravindu Karunanayake with support from Archt. Wepul Arachchige under the guidance of Archt. Philip Weeraratne, the design embraces a slower, more contemplative rhythm as day transitions into night.

As natural light recedes, warm internal illumination begins to seep through timber screens and porous walls, diffused by the evening mist rising from the riverbanks. The same passive strategies that define the house by day—cross ventilation, deep overhangs, and filtered openings—take on a new atmospheric quality, casting layered shadows and soft glows across textured surfaces. The koi pond, courtyards, and planted edges become reflective planes, amplifying light and creating a sense of depth beyond the built form.

Upper-level balconies and the roof pavilion hover above the darkened canopy, offering quiet vantage points for reflection. Here, architecture dissolves into ambience—less object, more presence. The house becomes a lantern within the landscape, its boundaries blurred, its edges softened, existing in equilibrium with the night. A retreat not only defined by space, but by mood, stillness, and the passage of time.
