Our units are places of rest and relaxation with beautiful artworks on the walls, including original paintings by Sri Lankan artists. This one by Laki Senanayake is of a Bo (Ficus religiosa) tree which is sacred to the Buddhists. As you gaze upon it, you can almost see and hear the wind-blown rustle of the leaves.

“Laki Senanayake (18 December 1937 - 30 May 2021) was a Sri Lankan sculptor and painter. He was known for his metal sculptures, often of birds. Following his schooling, Senanayake found work as an assistant in an architect's office, however he was soon sacked for organising his co-workers to form a trade union. He was then employed by Geoffrey Bawa as a draughtsman, having noticed his talents. He soon developed close relationship with artists such as Bevis Bawa, Donald Friend, Ulrik Plesner, Barbara Sansoni and Ena de Silva who had a close relationship with Bawa. By the 1970s Senanayake had established himself as an independent artist.”

Our units are places of rest and relaxation with beautiful artworks on the walls, including original paintings by Sri Lankan artists.
This artwork which hangs in our upper floor unit is by Channa Ekanayake who drew inspiration from village life and used our Studio Times photographs for reference.
“Channa Ekanayake, after his Bio-Science academic background, started to learn painting as a subject from a well known Croatian painter Dora Tomulic from 1995- 2001.
He enjoys working in different mediums such as gouache, egg tempera, soft pastel, oil, acrylic and often mix them to achieve the particular textures.
Channa has participated many national and international exhibitions for more than 20 years and his work display in many foreign private galleries. With Barefoot Gallery Channa had two solo exhibitions and few group shows too.”
