After the successful implementation of "Cash for Housing" programs after the tsunami in 2006, SDC decided to contribute to the return process after the end of the conflict in the North of Sri Lanka in March 2009. SDC launched a pilot program (300 permanent houses / infrastructure / livelihood support) in December 2009 in Maravanpulo/Jaffna. The holistic village approach focuses not only on shelter
needs, but integrates infrastructure components like access to safe water, construction of schools, preschools, community buildings, reforestation, access to services and as a third component livelihood support. The village approach has been proven a very successful tool in supporting the resettlement process. SDC is currently implementing programs to support the construction of 5'000 houses, communal infrastructure and in addition support returnees with livelihood components in 22 GN Divisions in Jaffna and Kilinochchi. This Page is keeping you up to date about the program development, is sharing information and experiences.
