“You see the beauty of a flower and appreciate it without plucking it.”
D&D Architects, led by Archt. Suren Dassanayake, is a Sri Lankan architectural practice rooted in simplicity, authenticity, and a deep connection to place. Our work is shaped by the natural environment, contextual sensitivity, and a refined minimalism inspired by Sri Lanka’s architectural ethos. For over a decade, we have rem
ained deliberately small and personal — allowing every project to be shaped through thoughtful dialogue, hands-on site engagement, and an intimate understanding of climate, landscape, and materiality. We design spaces that “touch the earth lightly,” using locally available materials and appropriate technologies to create meaningful spatial experiences. Our portfolio spans residential, commercial, interior, and hospitality projects across the island — including a Tea House Bungalow and Rock Boulder House in the ancient village of Reedigama, the Mahagala Recreational Center for Senarath Group, luxury interiors for hotels, curated apartment interiors along the Central Expressway corridor, and several additions, alterations, and private residences. We collaborate with leading specialists in Structural, Electrical, Mechanical, Fire Safety, Water Supply, Wastewater Treatment, Quantity Surveying, Air Conditioning, and Mechanical Parking — enabling us to deliver projects of any scale with clarity, precision, and technical excellence. Suren Dassanayake holds a Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (2015) and completed professional training with the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects in 2020. Early in his career, he trained under modernist architects Hiranthi Welandawe, Manjula Witharama, and Hiran Sandirigama. After receiving his Charter in 2024, he established his independent practice, now based in Kurunegala, Sri Lanka.
