A thoughtful transformation of an existing unfinished residence into a contemporary Tropical Modernist home, carefully redesigned around the client’s lifestyle, requirements, and future needs.
The design accommodates 03 bedrooms, dry and wet kitchens, while prioritizing natural daylight, cross ventilation, passive design principles, and a strong connection with the surrounding landscape.
A dedicated outdoor courtyard integrated with the living space creates a seamless indoor–outdoor relationship, bringing natural light, fresh air, greenery, and a sense of openness into the heart of the home.
Through a balanced combination of modern architectural language, climate-responsive design, natural materials, shaded spaces, and landscape integration, the existing structure has been reimagined into a comfortable and personalized living environment.

A familiar building, reimagined for a new experience.

For the 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗺𝘂𝗿𝘂𝘄𝗮 𝗦𝗔𝗡𝗔𝗦𝗔 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗸, GD HOMES developed a complete renovation and redesign concept, transforming the existing façade into a clean, contemporary architectural identity while respecting the character and purpose of the existing building.
The design extends beyond the exterior.

We also developed a modern interior concept to create a more welcoming, functional and professional environment for customers and staff.

As part of the same project, we also worked on the renovation and redesign of the library space located alongside the main building giving the existing space a fresh and contemporary architectural character.
From façade transformation to interior detailing, every element was approached as part of one cohesive design language.

“𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝘅 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀.” - From the very beginning, the client had a clear requirement.
For this residential project in Chilaw, our challenge was to create the clean, contemporary box-type appearance our client specifically wanted, while being very mindful of the overall construction budget.

Designed for a 15-perch land, the house provides:

• 2 bedrooms on the ground floor
• 2 bedrooms on the upper floor
• 2 bathrooms
• Carefully planned living spaces and circulation
• A modern box-type exterior character
• A roof solution designed to maintain the desired appearance without relying on a conventional flat roof slab

So, rather than simply designing a house and asking the client to adjust their expectations, we worked around the client’s requirements and budget to achieve the look they wanted as closely as possible.

Every element was considered with practicality in mind from the planning and proportions to the façade, materials and roof solution.

𝗔 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗹𝗼𝘁. 𝗔 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲. 𝗔 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝘁𝘀 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲.

Located in Ja-Ela, this two-storey residence for Mrs. Wasana was designed on a 10-perch plot surrounded by a unique natural setting — the Hamilton Canal at the front and the Uswetakeiyawa marshland at the rear.

With soft soil conditions and an irregularly shaped site, the challenge was not simply to fit a house onto the land, but to create a home that fully responds to its surroundings while satisfying every requirement of the client.

The design combines modern luxury with rustic warmth, creating a refined yet natural character throughout the residence. Every space was carefully planned to make the most of the limited footprint while maintaining comfort, functionality, and a strong architectural identity.

For us, this is more than just another house. It is another example of how good design can turn a challenging piece of land into a home with character.
