COVERTION OF KATUGASTHOTA SIGIRI CINEMA IN TO A KEELLS OUTLET

The conversion of the historic Katugasthota Sigiri Cinema, a structure over 70 years old, into a Keells outlet involved a careful architectural approach that preserved its heritage while adapting it for modern retail use. The building features traditional Sri Lankan architectural elements with a robust masonry structure, high ceilings, and ornamental façade details reflective of its era.

The interior was redesigned to accommodate retail functions, installing modern utilities, flooring, and lighting while preserving original architectural features like archways or mouldings. The façade was restored or subtly modified to maintain its heritage appearance, with signage designed to blend traditional and contemporary styles.

Overall, the architectural transformation balanced heritage preservation with functional modernization, resulting in a retail space that respects the building’s historic character while providing a comfortable, soundproofed environment for shoppers
