INTERIOR DESIGN CONCEPT

The interior design of Cala Serena – Tangalle reflects a calm, refined tropical lifestyle, seamlessly extending the villa’s architectural connection to nature. Interiors are arranged to blur the boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces, with living areas opening toward courtyards, verandahs, and the central garden, allowing natural light, ventilation, and greenery to shape the experience.

A warm, natural material palette—featuring timber, stone, soft textures, and earthy tones—creates a relaxed and timeless atmosphere suited to the coastal setting. Furniture and joinery are kept minimal and functional, emphasizing comfort, clarity, and craftsmanship.

Lighting is predominantly natural during the day and softly layered in the evenings to maintain a tranquil ambience. Bedrooms and bathrooms are designed as private retreats, oriented toward gardens and courtyards, offering a serene, spa-like quality.

Overall, the interiors embody understated tropical elegance, where nature, comfort, and thoughtful design come together to create a peaceful and enduring living environment.

The proposed villa in Tangalle is envisioned as a serene coastal sanctuary located within easy walking distance of the beach. The design emphasizes tranquility, privacy, and a deep connection to nature. A carefully choreographed sequence of small private courtyards guides visitors through the villa, creating moments of calm, enhancing natural ventilation, and allowing soft daylight to filter into every space.

At the heart of the property lies a central garden, which serves as the main open space and anchors the entire design. Within this garden stands a mature existing tree that is preserved and celebrated as the focal point of the villa. The architecture is intentionally shaped to wrap around the tree, allowing it to become a living centerpiece that influences spatial arrangement, views, and movement. Its canopy provides natural shading while reinforcing the villa’s sense of retreat and continuity with the landscape.

The built environment blends seamlessly with its surroundings through open verandahs, warm natural materials, and generous visual connections to greenery. This approach creates a relaxed tropical atmosphere that aligns with the coastal setting. Sustainable design principles—such as maximizing ventilation, reducing heat gain through shaded spaces, and using native plant life—further enhance comfort and environmental responsiveness.

Overall, the villa is conceived as a refined yet understated tropical dwelling where architecture frames nature, private courtyards offer quiet refuge, and the preserved tree becomes the symbolic heart of the experience

"𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒔"_𝑨 𝑴𝒐𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒏 𝑨𝒑𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒂𝒄𝒉 𝒕𝒐 𝑫𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝑳𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈

This two-unit residence has been thoughtfully designed to respond to its suburban context, balancing functionality with contemporary simplicity. The project accommodates a compact dwelling on the ground floor and a larger, more expansive residence on the first floor, allowing efficient land use while maintaining privacy and individuality for each home.

The architecture is expressed through clean lines, layered volumes, and the interplay of solid and void. The ground floor unit, with its direct connection to the street and garden, offers a modest yet practical living space—ideal for a small family or rental use. Above, the first-floor residence extends more generously, opening out to the surrounding greenery with elevated views and increased spatial comfort.

The material palette reflects an understated elegance. Walls are finished in rough plaster, giving the building a tactile, grounded presence, while carefully integrated timber detailing brings warmth and contrast to the otherwise minimalist façade. Large windows and openings ensure that both residences benefit from ample daylight and natural ventilation, reinforcing a sense of openness despite the compact urban footprint.

The street frontage is framed by two carports and independent entrances, providing clear identity to each unit. Landscape integration plays a key role, with existing mature trees and soft planting softening the massing and enhancing the suburban character of the development.

This residence demonstrates a sensitive approach to multi-unit living—creating two distinct homes within a single structure while maintaining harmony with the natural setting and suburban scale. It is a practical yet refined architectural solution that addresses contemporary living needs in a growing urban fringe.

Featuring exposed brickwork, timber, and textured concrete finishes, a neutral, tactile palette forms the backbone of the villa’s material language. These elements not only add warmth and visual depth but also create a grounded, organic character that responds to the up-country region’s climatic and cultural context. Promoting calm and comfort, the interplay of rough and refined surfaces enhances the sensory experience of the space.

Allowing the lush landscape to become a living backdrop to the interior, strategically positioned full-height glazed openings dissolve the boundary between inside and out. These expansive panes invite abundant natural light, reducing reliance on artificial lighting during the day, while promoting cross-ventilation that supports thermal comfort in the tropical climate. reinforcing the villa’s identity as a serene, immersive retreat, the final outcome is a seamless architectural transition where built form and nature coexist in quiet harmony.

" Essence House " is an existing house renovation project with an architectural design focusing on simplicity, functionality, and efficient use of space while incorporating modern materials like titanium finishes and painted blocks for aesthetics and durability.
The existing house had a bedroom with no natural light and ventilation which was really an unhealthy condition for the user. This situation was solved creating a courtyard adjecent to that bedroom and making it open to sky.
The open planned living and dining area maximises the feeling of spaciousness despite the small footprint of the house. Large folding windows increases the spaciousness of the living + dining area.
Painted walls and titanium floors will maintain a minimalist, durable, and easy-to-maintain aesthetic. These materials are cost-effective and versatile for an urban home.
Use of simple cabinetry and fixtures in the kitchen will keep costs down while providing functionality.
This design balances affordability with modern aesthetics, creating a functional and appealing home in an urban setting.

"Playing with Transparency"

The old shop building, in the near future a tea lounge and restaurant, is a building with an ordinary appearance that can be seen in the city of Galle.
Uplifting the facade by keeping the existing building was a challenge as it is facing the main road by the edge of the pavement without clear spaces.
Giving a glimpse of a tea factory, the "Playing with Transparency" project plays with the traditional notion of transparency and window making in playful and colourful ways. It creates a striking facade and dynamic relationship between exterior and interior.

The Tranquil : Proposed House at Maharagama

The Proposed Residence located in the heart of a vibrant and highly sought-after residential neighborhood in Maharagama. This unique house design embraces introversion and creates an urban oasis where privacy and tranquility thrive. With a central garden that harmonizes with existing vegetation, this residence exemplifies the perfect blend of seclusion and natural beauty.

this two-story house embraces an introverted design philosophy, focusing on inward reflection and sanctuary. The exterior façade exudes understated elegance, with clean lines and minimalist aesthetics. Rather than showcasing its presence to the outside world, the house turns its attention inward, creating a sense of serenity and retreat.

Privacy takes center stage in this highly residential area retreat. The design cleverly incorporates features such as tall perimeter walls, strategic positioning of windows, and carefully placed vegetation to shield the interior spaces from prying eyes. Outdoor living areas, such as secluded patios and rooftop terraces, offer private spots for relaxation and enjoyment of the surroundings.

Respecting and preserving the existing vegetation is a key aspect of this two-story house's design. The architectural layout takes into account the placement of trees, shrubs, and other plantings, integrating them seamlessly into the overall aesthetic. The house embraces the natural canopy and foliage, allowing the existing vegetation to provide shade, privacy, and a sense of timelessness.
