Uyandana House 🌱
A House Rooted in Light, Landscape, and Materiality - Designed by SAHA Architects.
This recently completed residence explores the relationship between architecture and nature through a restrained palette of exposed brick, textured concrete, timber, and carefully curated greenery. The design embraces the tropical climate by dissolving the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing light, air, and landscape to become integral components of everyday life.
The architectural language is defined by a series of brick volumes that provide privacy while introducing warmth and texture to the home's exterior. The handcrafted brickwork, paired with exposed concrete and natural timber, creates a timeless material composition that ages gracefully and celebrates craftsmanship.
A central open-to-sky courtyard serves as the heart of the house, drawing daylight deep into the interior while encouraging natural ventilation throughout the living spaces. Cascading vegetation softens the architectural edges, creating moments of tranquillity and strengthening the occupants' connection to the natural environment.
The living and dining areas unfold beneath a dramatic vaulted ceiling, enhancing the sense of openness while framing views of the garden and internal courtyard. Large timber-framed openings blur the threshold between inside and outside, transforming the landscaped yard into an extension of the home's living spaces.
The exterior landscape is conceived as an active part of the architecture. Permeable grass pavers, mature trees, and layered planting contribute to a cooler micro-climate while reinforcing the project's commitment to sustainable site design. Every outdoor space is designed not only for visual appreciation but also for daily use, encouraging interaction with nature.
Inside, a warm palette of timber flooring, exposed brick, and handcrafted finishes creates an atmosphere that is both contemporary and inviting. Carefully integrated lighting highlights the richness of natural materials, while custom-designed elements, including the sculptural home bar, reflect the home's attention to detail and personalised character.
Rather than relying on formal gestures, the house achieves its identity through simplicity, honest materials, and a thoughtful response to climate. It is a home where architecture quietly supports family life, balancing openness with privacy and creating spaces that evolve with changing light, seasons, and everyday rituals.
