Bougainvillaea Hawaii Pink is a very rear verity in Sri Lanka. This verity do not withstand heavy rains and affected by fungal attacks. If it is under shade all the leaves will get fallen down in rainy seasons. Correct amount fertiliser is also to be applied carefully.

Bougainvillaea Vera White is a ever blooming hardy verity with pure white coloured flowers. Leaves of this plant is having a nice yellowish deep green colour. Has a rapid growth if planted on ground. One of a best verity for Bonsai that because of the rapid growth on ground.
At least few blooms can be seen even during rainy seasons

We have this nice purple coloured Bougainvillaea which said to be Bougainvillea "Glabra Magnifica". the flower is same as the common verity "Royal Violet" but the leaves are different. and the stem is more fleshy then "Royal Violet' and also the density of bloom is also higher. Bougainvillaea "Singapore Splash" is a verity which suits tropical climates. Large purple coloured flowers and yellowish green spotted variegated leaves creates a nice colour combination for a garden. Easy to propagate with unmeasured stem. Very less deceases even during heavy rainy seasons.

Fertilising Young Bougainvillaea Plants - Young Bougainvillea requires a better growth until the plant get matured. Most of the people who grow Bougainvillaea love to have flowers at this stage also. Therefor it is required to use a fertiliser which can fulfil both the requirements. In Sri Lanka we use a Brand called "Baur's No 14" at this stage and succeed over last 20 years. N:P:K composition of this Fertiliser is 9%:8%:6% (the rest is non chemical base). We use 5-10 g of the fertiliser after plant the Bougainvillaea in a pot. Three week after fertilising for the first time 15-20 g of fertiliser is being applied in three weeks intervals, until the plant get matured . Once the plant get matured 20-30 g has to be applied in three weeks intervals. Before applying fertiliser the plant can be prune. The fertiliser has to be applied when the soil is in wet condition. Applying at the dry state the root system will get damaged and all bloom will get fallen off. We never use liquid fertiliser or fertiliser which contains hormones. We experienced Root and Stem deceases on plants which applied these type of fertilisers, specially in rainy seasons. Once the plant in the required shape and size the fertiliser has to be changed to get more flowers.
