REGIONAL OFFICE BUILDING, JAFFNA

Conceived as part of a national initiative to ensure safe drinking water for all, the Regional Office Building in Jaffna emerges as both an infrastructural landmark and a civic presence. Developed with World Bank support, the project establishes a dedicated administrative hub for the National Water Supply & Drainage Board in the Northern Region, reinforcing the delivery of essential public services through a purposeful architectural response.

The design addresses regional needs through a balance of efficiency, adaptability, and environmental responsibility. Informed by LEED principles, the building incorporates passive design strategies, alternative energy systems, and sustainable technologies positioning the project within a framework of long-term ecological performance.

Architecturally, the form evolves from abstract conceptual studies into a refined, contextually grounded composition. Early explorations are systematically translated into functional planning and articulated three-dimensional massing. The geometry draws subtle inspiration from local cultural expressions, particularly the layered verticality and rhythmic qualities found in traditional forms, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens.

This synthesis of abstraction and context results in a building that is both distinctive and responsive one that reflects the resilience and cultural continuity of Jaffna while supporting the critical infrastructure of everyday life.

KESELWATTA HOUSE

Nestled within a lush landscape, Keselwatta House unfolds as a sculptural exploration of suburban living, where every corner engages with nature. Articulated formal garden spaces at ground level invite picturesque views and natural ventilation, while the architecture itself opens seamlessly toward the outdoors — creating a home that breathes with its environment.

The arrival experience is defined by a grand double-height entrance, oriented toward a private courtyard. Serving as the heart of the home, the courtyard illuminates and ventilates the living spaces, blurring the line between interior and exterior. Upstairs, terraces and a shrine area frame the landscape, providing intimate moments of reflection and connection with the surroundings.

Inside, a free-plan layout with minimal partitions encourages fluid movement and natural airflow throughout. The pristine white interiors are complemented by timber doors, windows, and roof ceilings, along with tiled flooring, creating a crisp modernist aesthetic. Vertical steel columns rise to the roof, harmonizing with the coconut trees beyond and giving the house a distinctive character. Overhead canopies provide shade while adding an elegant architectural rhythm that completes the composition.

This isn’t merely a home.
It’s a dialogue with nature.
A sculpture in space.
A sanctuary of light, flow, and serenity.

Iconic 101 – Parliament Road

Rising with quiet confidence along Parliament Road, Iconic 101 presents a contemporary vertical landmark that balances sculptural form with urban refinement. The tower’s composition is defined by strong symmetrical massing, layered balconies, and a dramatic central void that draws light deep into the building — transforming circulation spaces into luminous architectural experiences.

The façade reads as a rhythm of glass and solid planes, where horizontal bands soften the building’s height while elevated sky terraces introduce moments of openness and pause. At dusk, the structure shifts character; warm interior illumination filters through the glazed spine, allowing the tower to glow as a beacon within the surrounding neighbourhood.

The arrival sequence reinforces this sense of presence. A transparent entrance pavilion dissolves the boundary between exterior and interior, creating a welcoming threshold that celebrates movement, light, and scale. Landscape elements at podium level ground the verticality, anchoring the project within its urban context.

More than a residential tower, Iconic 101 is conceived as a crafted living environment — where elevation meets intimacy, and architectural clarity supports contemporary lifestyles. The design embraces vertical living not as density, but as an opportunity for perspective, connection, and refined everyday experience.
