Sigiriya-Sri Lanka Sigiriya Rock is an ancient rock fortress known for its massive column of rock that reaches nearly 200 meters high. He decorated the walls with frescoes

The site dates back to the reign of King Kasyapa (477-495 AD), who chose this site as his new capital. The ruins of the capital built by the parricidal King Kassapa (477–95) lie on the steep slopes and at the summit of a granite peak standing some 180m high (the ‘Lion’s Rock’, which dominates the jungle from all sides). A series of galleries and staircases emerging from the mouth of a gigantic lion constructed of bricks and plaster provide access to the site

The view of Lion’s Rock from the top is absolutely unreal, and the whole place feels so peaceful in the early morning. The trek takes around 30 minutes with a basic climb, totally manageable and 100% worth waking up at 5 AM for.

You also pass through a temple during the trek, so make sure to wear the covered overalls provided there before entering the temple section.

If you’re visiting Sigiriya, don’t miss this experience ✨

These are the views you get if you hike up Pidurangala rock, which only takes about 30 minutes. I will say, it does get a little sketchy towards the end as you make the final ascent up some big boulders but overall, not too bad. And it’s 1000% worth it for these views 🙌
