We are happy to announce that Pharmacy Marx has won in two categories at the Iconic Awards 2026. We are happy that the project has been distinguished as a winner in the categories of Architecture: Healthcare and Circular Design.

Pharmacy Marx is the second project within a series of small case studies at Metaform. This project focused on reduction as a design approach and explores material economy, resource conservation, and architectural reduction in an experimental way.

From the very beginning, the design focused on using as little material as possible and considering each component in multiple ways: functionally, structurally and atmospherically. Waste avoidance remained a priority during ex*****on, and apart from a minimal amount of tile offcuts, no waste was generated on site. In the production of the furniture, the approach to material optimisation was refined even further. Cutting patterns and workflows were developed to ensure that no leftover material was produced. The small amount of unavoidable offcuts is completely reused in the workshop. The logic of the project: Nothing is concealed and nothing unnecessary is added. The pharmacy exemplifies an attitude that understands sustainability not as an aesthetic label but as an integral part of architectural thinking. It shows that omission can lead to a sense of density and to an architecture that achieves maximum impact with minimal material.

A new chapter begins for Grundschule Dreiländereck in Perl.

Last Friday, the municipality of Perl received €6 million in funding for the first two phases of the school’s renovation and extension. The funding was presented to Mayor Ralf Uhlenbruch by Saarland Minister-President Anke Rehlinger and Minister for the Interior, Building and Sport Reinhold Jost.

The project will transform and expand the existing school, carefully integrating the buildings from different periods with new spaces and creating a coherent environment for learning, interaction and community.

Ein neues Kapitel für die Grundschule Dreiländereck in Perl.

Am vergangenen Freitag erhielt die Gemeinde Perl eine Förderung in Höhe von 6 Millionen Euro für die ersten beiden Phasen der Sanierung und Erweiterung der Schule. Der Förderbescheid wurde Bürgermeister Ralf Uhlenbruch von Saarland Ministerpräsidentin Anke Rehlinger und Minister für Inneres, Bauen und Sport Reinhold Jost überreicht.

Das Projekt wird die bestehende Schule erweitern und weiterentwickeln, indem die Gebäude aus unterschiedlichen Bauperioden sorgfältig mit neuen Räumen verbunden werden. So entsteht ein zusammenhängender Ort für Lernen, Begegnung und Gemeinschaft.

Wir freuen uns, zu dieser wichtigen Entwicklung für die Gemeinde beitragen zu dürfen.

We’re pleased to share that our project Salmtal School has been nominated for the “Bildungsbau” Award (Educational Building Award) 2027 by Callwey Verlag.

Founded in 1884 in Munich, Callwey Verlag is a leading publisher in architecture and design, with selected award projects featured in their renowned books.

The new Primary School in Salmtal is conceived as an open, identity-shaping place of learning that combines education, community and sustainability in a contemporary architectural language. The aim is to create a clear, child-friendly campus that integrates harmoniously into the local context and surrounding landscape. Single-storey timber “learning houses” create a clear identity for each age group, connected by shared spaces that encourage interaction and seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor learning.

Expansion of “Dreiländereck” Primary School in Perl, Germany

This week, we had the opportunity to present the current status of our project to the Committee for Culture, Environment and Construction, successfully concluding Design Phase 2.

Discover the Paperjam interview with GG Kirchner, Partner and Architect at Metaform, speaking about Epernay, a project particularly close to his heart.

Designed by Metaform for POST Luxembourg, Epernay is more than a building. It is a case study exploring new ways of thinking about sustainable architecture.

Developed through a quite novel approach, the project took time to evolve and is approached at Metaform almost like a research laboratory, constantly seeking new ways of building and exploring new avenues for responsible architecture.
From reclaimed bricks previously used in Germany to reused interior materials, over 70% of materials were repurposed for certain elements. The building also uses intelligent natural ventilation and thermal mass regulation, eliminating the need for conventional heating and air conditioning.

Despite the challenges of creating a project that does not fit into a standard category, Epernay proves that it is possible to completely rethink the concept of sustainable building.
