Set at the edge of the village, this extension was designed to strengthen the relationship between the house and the surrounding landscape while creating new spaces for everyday living.

A sunken terrace became an important element of our project, creating a protected outdoor environment that brings natural light deep into the extension and establishes a gradual transition between interior and exterior spaces. Rather than functioning as separate elements, the terrace, sauna and garden are experienced as a continuous sequence of spaces connected to the landscape.

By focusing on the quality of these connections, the project expands the living environment while enhancing privacy, flexibility and everyday comfort.

One of the most common misconceptions about residential projects is that architecture begins with drawings.

In reality, many of the decisions that have the greatest impact on quality, budget and project outcomes are made long before the first sketch is produced. Understanding the site, defining priorities, reviewing regulations, evaluating feasibility and establishing a clear brief all contribute to a more efficient design process and reduce the risk of costly changes later on.

To help clients better understand this process, we have prepared a guide that outlines the different phases of an architectural project in Luxembourg, from the first feasibility discussions through design, permitting, construction and project completion. Our guide "Working With an Architect in Luxembourg" explains what happens during each stage, what information is required and how architects, consultants and contractors work together throughout the process.

The rear facade of our project in Limpertsberg is now complete, revealing a key aspect of the design strategy. The layout is structured around two key considerations: solar orientation and the relationship between private spaces and the public realm.

Bedrooms are positioned along the north-facing rear facade, benefiting from softer and more consistent daylight while remaining separated from the activity of the street.

The main living spaces (including the living room, kitchen and balconies) are oriented towards the south-facing side of the site. By placing the most frequently used spaces where sunlight is most available, the design improves everyday comfort while reinforcing the relationship between the apartments and the street.

This approach creates a clear distinction between public and private spaces while responding carefully to the surrounding urban context.

Designed for a growing family, the project rethinks the house through a series of targeted interventions focused on light, openness, and everyday living quality.

Formerly used as a library and storage space, the attic was transformed into a more private master suite with its own bathroom. A new dormer window introduces daylight deeper into the space while opening wider views toward the landscape.

The upper-level extension creates an additional bedroom for the children with integrated desks designed for study and daily routines. On the ground floor, a previously fragmented layout was reorganized around a new open kitchen and living area, establishing a clearer connection between the family spaces and the garden.

Meet the team — Maude — Project Manager, Architect

Part of our team since 2020, Maude combines her professional experience in Belgium and Luxembourg with a strong interest in the technical and ex*****on side of architecture.

For Maude, architecture is about creating living spaces where people truly feel good : spaces designed with comfort, fluidity, and intention, where nothing is accidental.

She also believes that one of the most underestimated aspects of architecture is the coordination behind the scenes, managing companies, connecting different trades and ensuring that every element works together as one interconnected system. Even when everything seems resolved on plans, creativity and problem-solving remain essential parts of the architect’s role.

Based in Belgium, she lives with her family and is the mother of two young children. Outside of work, she enjoys travelling, skiing , running and swimming.

Located in Mersch, our project transformed a former house into our studio workspace within a designated secteur protégé, where local regulations legally preserve the existing street facade, roofline and architectural character of the building.

The intervention therefore focused on reworking the interior structure to support a more collaborative and functional working environment. Through selective demolition and structural reinforcement, we reorganised the plan into a more open and connected workspace with improved circulation, shared visibility between teams and natural light reaching deeper into the building.

Working within the constraints of the existing building allowed the project to extend its lifespan while adapting it carefully to new forms of daily use and collaboration.

Renovating an existing home involves more than construction work. Regulations, structural constraints, energy performance, budget planning and long-term living quality all shape the process from the earliest stages.

Our guide explains the key phases of a residential renovation project in Luxembourg : from feasibility studies and planning permissions to budgeting, environmental upgrades, and the decision between renovation or demolition.

It is designed as a practical resource to help clients better understand the opportunities, constraints, and decisions involved before starting a renovation project.

Permit received - Construction begins spring 2026

The project works within a residential ensemble originally built by Paul Bretz in 1995, preserving its spatial organisation and architectural identity while improving long-term performance.

We extend the access galleries with an independent roof structure, creating private outdoor spaces for upper-floor units while maintaining the original organisation. The envelope is upgraded with insulation, ventilated zinc cladding, triple-glazed aluminium windows, and heat recovery ventilation, with careful control of thermal bridges.

The intervention improves energy performance, durability, and daily comfort through a series of targeted additions and upgrades. Working from the existing structure, the project extends the lifespan of the ensemble while reinforcing long-term resilience and sustainability for residents.
