Why the use of waste management hierarchy pyramid is important?

Waste management is a big subject and worldwide phenomena now a days if we read the Environmental Protection Agency EPA reports. The volume of waste generated everyday in this world is alarming, above that, the dangerous or hazardous waste generation is causing catastrophic consequences for the environment (Land, Air, Sea).
Why the hierarchy is important? the ultimate goal is to protect the environment that is why the option which protects the environment best will always be preferred that's why kept at top in hierarchy pyramid. We all know that in HSE the elimination of hazard is always first priority (no hazard no problem) but this is not possible most of the times so reduce the hazard that can be managed easily or which left low consequences for the environment. If we kept disposing everything after use sooner or later this world will be filled with waste so it is important to use this hierarchy for waste management.
EPA introduced the waste management term called (cradle to grave waste management) which means the waste producer is also responsible for the waste management. If the producer don't follow this policy they face heavy fines, sanctions as well as ban. So EPA force them to present the plan for waste management and force them to follow hierarchy pyramid.
1. Reduce: Produce less waste or reduce the volume or reduce the hazardous nature of waste.
2. Reuse: Collect waste wash or sanitize and reuse for the same purpose instead of disposing.
3. Recycle: Collect waste, process it and if possible convert into raw material and turn into new products.
4. Recovery: gathering the waste from the ultimate consumer and separating items or components of interest for different uses.
5. Disposal: after collecting the useful energy from the waste. i.e. using waste as fuel or in burning process after that disposing ashes in land fillings so that it can not cause any harm to the soil or environment.

From these 5 steps we came to know this is very important to follow the hierarchy because the options at top are more preferable and suitable to follow for waste management because they left least consequences to the environment and the environment protection is our ultimate goal.
