A nod to the way we design. We believe you first have to love a territory in order to transform it: love its culture, its landscapes, its resources, its fragilities and all the living things that inhabit it.
It is this attachment to what is already there that feeds our ambition: to support the transformation of territories without imposing a model, starting from what they are to reveal what they can become.

Hunnu City brought us together around this conviction.
Conceived as a regenerative city born of the Mongolian steppe, it led us to combine architecture, urban planning, climate, engineering and design to bring out a vision deeply rooted in its territory and yet turned towards the future.

Today, what was a project team becomes a long-term partnership.
Each member of M Group keeps its identity, its independence and its expertise. But we choose to pool our knowledge, our cultures and our ways of working, in a resolutely ecosystemic approach, across disciplines and scales.

Mongolia is our starting point.
We want to build a lasting presence there, alongside institutions, developers and local communities, and to continue on the path opened by Hunnu City.
But our ambition is also to go further: to bring this same approach to other territories in transformation, in Asia and beyond, where our complementary skills can contribute to their regeneration.

On September 23, IQP Italdesign celebrated its 20th anniversary of professional operations in Mongolia with a seminar focused on the intersection of architecture and nature, biomimicry, and nature-based design.

Following a keynote address by architect Luciano Cosmo, exploring the future of planning, introductory remarks by H.E. Ms. Giovanna Piccarreta, Italian Ambassador to Mongolia, and a welcome speech by the President of the Association of Mongolian Architects, architect Alberto Zatta, founder and director of IQP Italdesign, delivered a keynote speech reflecting on the companyโ€™s twenty years of professional activity in Mongolia. He presented the evolution of IQP Italdesign, its mission, its experience in the country, and the challenges and opportunities that have shaped its work over the past two decades. His speech also highlighted the importance of establishing long-term professional relationships and of combining international experience with a deep understanding of Mongoliaโ€™s architectural, environmental, and cultural context.

Architect Luca Bertacchi of Bechu Associรฉs in Paris and architect Ivan Jovanovich of Atelier Ten in London then delivered keynote presentations on the future of Hunnu City, the relationship between the built environment and natural ecosystems, and the potential of passive house solutions in Mongolia. Their presentations explored design methodologies and practical strategies for achieving a sustainable balance among urban development, landscape, and natural resources.

The seminar provided significant value to future Mongolian architects currently studying at universities, as well as to practicing architects and professionals from across the country. It served as a platform for sharing expertise, exchanging ideas, and collectively considering how architecture and urban planning can contribute to a more sustainable and respectful future for Mongolia.

On the occasion of this important event, the three companiesโ€”IQP Italdesign, Bechu Associรฉs, and Atelier Tenโ€”signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a professional multidisciplinary partnership, named M Group, with the aim of building a long-term presence in Mongolia. The partnership will bring together international experience and expertise with local knowledge, professional capabilities, and an understanding of Mongolian culture, with the shared objective of contributing to the future development of Mongolia.

Global Perspectives for Ulaanbaatarโ€™s Future

On 23 September, we are pleased to host a special seminar, marking the 20th anniversary of IQP ITALDESIGN LLCโ€™s presence in Mongolia.

For two decades, IQP ITALDESIGN LLC has contributed to Mongoliaโ€™s architectural and urban development, building valuable experience and supporting the evolution of Ulaanbaatarโ€™s urban environment.

This milestone is not only a moment to celebrate the journey so far, but also an opportunity to look ahead. The seminar will explore new ideas, international expertise, and emerging approaches to sustainable urban development, with a focus on the opportunities and challenges shaping Ulaanbaatarโ€™s future.

Bringing together internationally recognized experts from diverse disciplines, the event will foster an interdisciplinary dialogue among architects, urban planners, mobility specialists, urban systems experts, and environmental consultants. By combining these complementary perspectives, we aim to contribute to a more integrated, resilient, and holistic vision for the future of Ulaanbaatar.

We look forward to welcoming distinguished guests, professionals, partners, and all those interested in the future of urban development in Mongolia.

We are at a loss for words to express the profound sorrow and shock we felt upon learning of Gianandrea Barrecaโ€™s sudden and unexpected passing.
We have lost a great professional, with whom we had the privilege of collaborating on numerous projects in Mongolia. We will always remember his availability, expertise, and extraordinary human qualities.
We take comfort in knowing that his memory will live on through the projects we realized together in Ulaanbaatar, a lasting testament to his professionalism, passion, and valuable contribution.
In this moment of deep sadness, we extend our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and caring for him.
May he rest in peace.
