I can not wait to move on to multi engine. An aircraft with one engine like a single engine piston aircraft maintained well is splendid. Aircraft like the heroic Spitfire has one propellor but it has no redundancy. If the one engine fails the frame becomes a heavy glider. When you move on to multi engine you have two power plants and if one fails you can still control and flawlessly land your machine. As multi engine pilots we learn how to fly the aircraft with one engine out. One engine out will yaw the aircraft which means it will move the airframe in the opposite direction to the functioning engine which must be compensated for. Most passenger aircraft have multiple engines for many other reasons inclusive of safety, speed, altitude, redundancy, power control and dynamics.

This airport was where I achieved my pilot licence and it is a very unique aviation hub that well services the UK in many ways - from training to military flights and private commercial jets etc. This is a great picture and I can not wait to be looking out of the window to see this picture in real life again and for many years ahead.

30 years ago I planted Simon’s tree with my family and it’s important to be back. I will make this an annual pilgrimage, having left it alone for many many years whilst I’ve struggled and battled with grief. I’m in the best place I could possibly be emotionally having come through the other side. Loss now becomes pride, gratitude and hope for others. It’s incredible to see how large Simon’s tree is now and it’s no surprise that many families will also have the same special place to visit for all of time.

I packed my bags this morning to get up to the Childhood Wood in Sherwood Forest to see my brothers tree that I planted with many in the late 80’s as a sapling from the Great Oak (Robin Hood) . It was the first time I’ve had the ‘minerals’ to embrace my grief alone for my brother Simon, since mum passed. I’ve had a good evening catching up with my mum and dads best friends in life and parents who have also lost and have children suffering from the rarest of conditions. This was not an easy pilgrimage to my brother and the remainder of the weekend will be more of an insight. I am “Lucky Lavery” as I’m blessed by angels above and in life.

I lost a connection with former good friends recently due to cancel culture. I’m fine (but sad about it). Having opened up about it, it was just worth a chat - nobody was hurt in the process and it’s been clear that I did nothing wrong and others gainfully were promoted.
