We are pleased to announce that EM Architects has been shortlisted in three categories at the prestigious World Expolympics international awards for our design of Malta’s national pavilion at Expo 2025, Osaka, Japan.

Our pavilion, “Catch the Wave,” blends Malta’s heritage with forward-looking innovation — a limestone-like digital façade, temple-inspired curves, and immersive storytelling, all underpinned by sustainability.

Malta National Day | Malta Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka

This weekend we attended Malta's national day at the Malta Pavilion at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, designed by our team at EM Architects. Under the theme “Catch The Wave,” this project has been a true labour of love—celebrating Malta’s ancient roots while looking boldly toward its innovative and sustainable future.

From the curved media façade to the sleek water features, every element tells a story of Malta's past, present and future. Visitors step through a mysterious entrance shaped like our iconic sea caves, into an immersive sensory experience.

None of this would have been possible without the dedication, creativity, and hard work of our incredible team, in particular architects Piotr Armatys and Michele Pice.

EM Architects EM Architects are proud to unveil our design for the Malta Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka Japan!

This project marks the culmination of two years of hard work and we are honoured to showcase our pavilion design in such a prestigious event.

Our architectural narrative is rooted in the island’s rich cultural heritage and commitment to sustainability, seamlessly interwoven with advanced technologies. The pavilion’s curved façade is animated by a continuous reel—a dynamic skin that evokes movement and transformation. In contrast, crisp linear water features define the entry axis, offering a spatial tension between fluidity and precision. The Maltese Pavilion at Expo 2025 aims to leave a lasting impression on visitors.

It has been an amazing journey, during which we tested our skills and worked with great people.
