“What Wood is This?”
We often been asked on what is the species of wood that we're using on certain projects. Now, we’re turning that curiosity into knowledge.

Introducing our Wood Identification Class, where you’ll learn how to recognise Malaysian commercial timber species such as Chengal, Balau, Merbau, Kempas, Nyatoh, and more. Through hands-on observation using hand lenses and real wood samples, you’ll discover how to identify grain patterns, pores, density, colour variations, and distinctive characteristics unique to each species.

This is not just theory, it’s a practical, tactile learning designed for carpenters, contractors, designers, and anyone who works with wood.

11YO Girl Built a Pistol!

Esca (11 YO) is the eldest of three sisters. All three joined our Reka Junior Beginner Class, got excited, and continued on to the Advanced level.

At the very last session (after completing her slide-lid pencil box), she used the extra time to design and build her own rubber band wooden gun. She thoughtfully applied the grooving technique she had practised, turning it into a guide for the “bullet” to sit and pass through. We only assisted with the grooving, drilling the trigger hole, and inserting a nail as the pivot. That’s a remarkable idea! Imagined, designed, and built on her own. No references. No GPT. Just creativity and a series of planning.

We’re truly grateful to witness children growing day by day. The best part, seeing them reconnect with what they’ve learned and confidently apply it to their next project.

It’s bittersweet knowing this might be their last session with us before moving to Taiwan, and possibly venturing to other countries after that. Wherever they go, we hope they continue building with their hands and with their hearts!

Tanks are one of the most popular builds during our Free Build sessions for kids (7–12yo). We simply give them a piece of wood, and they design from their own imagination, no references, no Google, no pictures. Just memory, ideas, and creativity. In this case, one student imagined a tank. And this is the fun part: every tank made by different kids looks slightly different. Different shapes, different features… yet somehow we all recognise it as a tank.

Why? Because the strong feature is there the long cannon at the front. That single feature makes the idea instantly recognisable. To us, this is a beautiful form of Abstraction. Like saying a piece is “inspired by” something. Each build becomes unique, personal, and full of character.

The kids made this almost entirely by themselves (with a little supervision at the bandsaw). We value every creation and do our best to present their ideas in a way that sparks even more imagination, now with a little help from AI.
